There was something adorable about a man holding a baby, especially if she was his. “How about Misty?” He wouldn’t take his eyes off our girl.
“I have one thing to say to that.Play Misty for Me.” Carter held the other baby twin, whom we believed she was his.
Luke swore.
“Please don’t swear in front of the girls,” I said.
“Yes, ma’am.”
I didn’t know how that happened, but a witch named Katrina confirmed the twins one belonged to each brother. They were not identical. One girl with amber eyes, the other brunette with beautiful ice blue eyes. Neither came licking blood or anything. As of their beasts, that couldn’t be known until they were eight.
I moaned a little, still sore from the caesarean from hell. The other pains were tolerable and almost healed.
Slasher held out his hand, palm up, and sat next to me on my bed. “Maybe I should turn you.”
I cocked a brow. “Uh…”
Luke stopped smiling, and Carter stiffened.
“I haven’t thought about that yet,” I said.
“Please don’t,” Luke grumbled, his expression dull.
Slasher stared at him, his eyes full of menace. “Why not?”
“Because it’s not fair, Prez. We’re one family. We’ll die for each other. But we’re still natural enemies. That will never change. I don’t want my instincts to flare with awful shit when I’m with my mate.”
Slasher bit himself and lifted his wrist to my mouth. “Our mate.”
“She’s my fated mate, Prez.”
I swallowed two pints. I was getting used to the taste. “Fated? You hated me from the moment you saw me, Luke.”
His tender gaze locked on mine. “I did. I rejected my fated mate. Because I couldn’t understand. Because of how fucked up I am. But the second I shifted in front of you, I just knew.”
“You’re my fated mate, too,” Carter said. “I knew right from the start. You can tell by the crazy shit I couldn’t stop myself from doing. But because the way I’m wired is so…crazy, I couldn’t trust my instincts and claim you.” He looked at his brother. “Like you said, it’s not fair. One human to be the fated mate of two shifter brothers and the lover of a vamp and a demon. It’s so messed up.” He shrugged. “But it is what it is. I’m still happier than I’ve ever been. I bet your ass you are, too.”
“I am,” Luke said.
“Then what difference does it make if she’s human or has fangs or horns? It doesn’t change a thing.” Carter smiled.
Luke filled his chest with air and mused. “I guess not.”
“It’s your choice after all, baby.” Slasher wrapped his arm around me. “We’ll accept it no matter what.”
I nodded and smiled, loving my new family more and more. Our connection and understanding were growing deeper every moment. With every problem we faced, we were bonding. Each one of us was different, yet together we were complete.
“How’s the boy?” I asked.
“Kicking. He earned himself two days in the shed by fanging you, but he’ll survive. I slashed the throat of your piece of shit ex myself,” Slasher answered.
Inferno came in, holding a tray, the smell of chicken and rosemary delicious. “Your food is ready, Miss Legend.” He placed it on my lap and started to cut the food for me.
“The babies are right there. I can feed myself,” I said.
He ignored me and pushed a fork gently inside my mouth. “I know you can. But you know how much I love to take care of you.”
I took his free hand and placed it on my cheek. “I’m glad you saved us and gladder you’re back.”
