Haunted, she looked at the five of us and then up at the banner. “Thank you. It’s very nice of you.”

“Did you get it, Professor?” Mad Dog had to ask. That was not the face of someone that had just got a big promotion.

“I did,” she answered.

I wiped my mouth. “Then why do you look like a fucking zombie. What’s wrong?”

“I need to sit down. We all need to sit down for this.”

CHAPTER 40

INFERNO

“Pregnant! Fucking PREGNANT!” Dasher started breaking things. Only when he knew the father could be one of the three about to shit themselves, he broke bones instead.

I only got a few punches. Well, I didn’t really fuck her. I didn’t even touch her. I took Miss Legend inside away from the carnage. She was devastated.

“We have to stop them,” she whimpered.

“They will cool down on their own.” I brought a blanket and wrapped it around her back.

“Why aren’t you out there helping them to stop this stupid fight? What’s done is done.”

“There is something I have to tell you, Miss Legend.” A confession I should have made a long time ago. A secret only Slasher and I knew. “It’s about Damien. He came to me that night you and I…were in each other’s head…and asked me to do something to you. In return he’d give me a piece of his kingdom and acknowledge me as his son.”

Her glistening eyes widened at me. “What? What did he ask you to do?”

I swallowed. “To put a baby in your belly and give it to him.”

He jaw fell for a moment, and then her face scrunched with rage. “What. The. Fuck?!”

“Don’t worry. I said no. That’s why I stopped talking to you. The temptation was too strong. I didn’t wanna risk it.”

“Inferno, why would your father want a baby you and I make?”

“I think it has something to do with his new bitch.”

I’d seen real fear, and her eyes bulged with it. “Isabella is having trouble getting pregnant. Could he possibly think he would just steal a baby and give it to her? Even if that’s what it is, why me? Why us? Why wouldn’t he just get an orphaned baby?”

“That beats me.”

The front door tumbled down with a loud thud. Dasher and Mad Dog came flying in on top, fangs and claws out. Prez was hashing it with Terror outside in a big cloud of dirt and steam in the snowy air.

“Stop it.” Her voice got lost in all the growling. She bolted up, the blanket dropping off her shoulders. “Stop it!” she screamed.

That put a halt to the fight for a throb. Then she passed out. I caught her head before it hit the floor. And that how she got the fight to finally stop.

CHAPTER 41

VIXEN

“You don’t know your potential yet, Vixen.”

My eyes blinked open. All I could see was darkness. “Who’s there? Where am I?”

“In your room.” Pattison’s face jumped out of the dark, a fireball in his hand. “You’re still unconscious.”

“Why are you in my head? What do you want from me?”
