Luke let her ankles rest on his shoulders and fucked with deep thrusts. I kissed her as he cried out his big finish.

“I owe Dasher a hundred bucks,” he said, panting.

“What?” she breathed.

“When you first came in, and everybody was hot for you, Dasher was angry. We had a bet. I told him to give it a week, and it’d fade.” He laughed at himself. “It’s been almost two weeks. Nobody stopped being hot for you, and I…”

“Okay.” She chuckled. “When you pay up, please neglect to mention the details. I want you in one piece. Both of you.”

“Yeah.” He lay by her other side, and we sandwiched her in our embrace. She fit so well. For me, she fit everything. It was like she was the piece of my puzzle that had been missing all along… The tamer of my beast. The bringer of my sanity.

Luke was looking at her with tenderness I’d never seen in his cruel eyes, except maybe for me. I’d say he’d fallen for her. For her courage. For her acceptance. She’d never judged or mocked his beast, saving him from the pool of hatred he’d drowned himself in, the prison of non-belonging where he’d been caged for years.

If I wasn’t wrong, I’d say she did what even the Blood Demons couldn’t do for him. Gave him the home he’d yearned for where he never expected.

As for me, I intended to keep her. I didn’t care if it was wrong or taboo. I didn’t give a shit if I had to share her or piss someone to be with her. I was never going to let her go.

CHAPTER 35

VIXEN

Dasher burst into tears when I walked through the gates. He held me and sobbed like a little child.

I cried, too. With every tear shed from my eyes or his, I felt my pain and anger wash away. I lost track of time as we embraced each other like that. When we were done, I was no longer mad at him or hurt. I knew everything he’d said came from behind his heart. He didn’t mean it. He needed me as much as I needed him, and loved me as much as I loved him.

I, too, was his family. Tonight, I strongly believed that, with time, the Blood Demons could be my family as well.

“I’m so sorry. I would never forgive myself,” he sniffled.

“I’m right here. In one piece. The next time, I’m gonna need one of those, though.” I pointed to his medallion.

“There won’t be a next time. I’m never letting you out of my sight again.”

“Ugh. C’mon. You know you can’t do that, and as long as you are monster patrol, there will be a next time. And stop being such a wuss. Your sister can put up a fight.”

“She can,” Luke said, dragging Venom’s corpse with Carter.

“She stabbed the piece of shit in the eye,” Carter added.

A smug smile stretched my lips.

Dasher took off his medallion and placed it in my palm. “You can hold on to it for now.”

“Maybe we should give her a cut. Let her patrol with us, too. Do you know how to ride, kitten?” Slasher descended down the porch.

I slid the medallion over my head and adjusted the hair on my back. “Not yet, but when I do, I’ll take you up on that.”

His silver eyes shone at me. They were filled with all the things he was hiding behind a hard face, the facade he had to keep to be Prez. Relief, pain, blame. Happiness? “The cut has to be earned, Professor. I don’t give it to deserters.”

He, too, was hurt that I left.I get it, Slasher. You missed me. I fucking missed you, too.

He folded his arms over his chest. “You here to stay this time?”

“I’m here to dance at the bonfire you’ll make out of this Venom. But first I need a shower…and to see what you did with my room. I hope it’s finished.”

He shook his head and waved theatrically at the front door. “After you, Princess.”

I felt his eyes digging holes in my back, in my ass, as we climbed up upstairs. I surprised him with an abrupt glance over my shoulder. His lips twitched with a sly smile, but he didn’t bother to hide his ogling.
