She was no girl, though. She was a damn fine woman.
And I was no man. I was a monster.
“No wonder Dasher never mentioned her,” Mad Dog said, killing his engine.
I kept mine going, my mind unsettled on whether I’d leave the campus yet. “What do you mean?”
He chuckled. “Those tits, that mouth, those big blue eyes looking at you while your dick is fuckingthat mouth.”
My head snapped toward him. Furious for a second—why the fuck would I be?—I fixed him with a death glare. Then I sucked in a cold breath, returning to my senses. “Whatever. I’m an ass man.”
“That too. She’s got a real—”
“She’s VP’s sister,” I interrupted, my fists squashing the handlebars.
“Yes, Prez,” he mumbled. “Gonna beat it yet or we’re paying the fucking devil a visit?”
“We will. Just not now.” I needed to know she was okay first. Then I’d go tell that fucker she was off-limits to him, too.
“Okay, should we head straight to the clubhouse or check on the garage?”
“Nah. Inferno and Terror can handle the garage on their own. We’re waiting for the professor to finish. She has no ride. We gotta pick her up and deliver her to Dasher in one piece.”
“Yeah?”
I picked up the shit in his tone. “What, you have a problem with that?”
His jaw flexed as he shook his head, looking down. “No, Prez. It’s a perfect plan. The right thing to do.”
The amusement on his face and the lame ass glow in his eyes told me he liked the plan a little too much. The son of a bitch was hooked on Legend, too.
Fuck this shit. I revved the engine, and he stared at me like an idiot. “On second thought, we should go.”
“Wha—”
I didn’t explain and raced the wind. What the fuck was I thinking waiting outside school for some chick?
CHAPTER 3
VIXEN
“Professor Legend. Just in time.” Professor Pattison stretched a hand from behind his desk.
Yes. Courtesy of a cocky bad boy named Slasher.I shook my teacher’s hand and took a seat. “Pleasure to see you again, Professor. And please, call me Vixen.”
He, too, sat. “How’s Washington treating you, Vixen? You look great, by the way.”
“Washington is good, not much different from here, and you look great, too.” The man must have been fifty by now, and he didn’t look a day older than I’d left him. “Nine years, and you’re exactly the same, Professor. What’s your secret?”
He smiled, his green eyes alight. “If I tell you, it won’t be a secret.”
Pattison had always been mysterious like that. It was a part of his appeal. I used to have an innocent crush on him. Older teacher oozing confidence and knowledge with a body hotter than hell…I couldn’t help it. He…had that mischievous fire in his stare that made him even more attractive. Unfortunately, I was faithful to Russell back then. Who knew what could have happened if I hadn’t been with that asshole?
Not that Professor Pattison would ever look at me. I wasn’t pretty enough for a man like him, and my intellectuality was insignificant compared to his. Besides, he’d never crossed the line with any of his students. Certainly, he wouldn’t start with staff now; he was my boss after all, even if it was going to be for a short period of time.
Truly, I wasn’t looking for a man. I’d embraced thestay singlepolicy for years. A guy I’d known my whole life, loved with all my heart, built a future with in my dreams and planned to make it come true together, crushed it along with my heart and soul on what should have been the most beautiful day of my life.
How was I supposed to believe another man when he said he loved me? I’d heard it a million times from Russell, and he did what he did. How could I have dreamt a new life based on promises easily broken? Russell had promised me forever, and just when it was about to start, he broke that promise.
