“He can’t be older than sixteen.”

“Fuck. Do we still have a trail?”

“Yes, they’re still picking up the scent. He’s heading to the Canadian borders. We have to hurry if we wanna get the bloodsucker this time.”

His eyes narrowed at me for a moment. It must have been the bloodsucker part. Unlike Prez, he was iffy about it, and I struggled to stay considerate when it came to vampires. But Dasher dismissed whatever shit he was going to give me for my fuckup and went straight to the dingy bookshelf in the corner. He moved it and opened the hidden arsenal portal behind it. He chose an arbalest and a few grenades. Then his hand felt his neck. “Shit.”

“What?”

“My medallion… It’s still in my room.”

For a second, I didn’t see the problem. He could go back in and get it. Then I realized his handful of a sister was a ticking bomb. Opening that door alone would set her to explode. She was not a chick who knew how to submit even if it was for her own good. I bet the second we went on our run, she would bolt through the windows, snoop around or do whatever shit she wanted.

“If I go in there, we’ll either fight again or she will hammer me with questions about the cross blade pendant,” he added.

Or both. “I take it you haven’t told her about your fangs yet?”

“Or your hooves.”

I chuckled. “Fair enough. Want me to get the medallion for you?”

He studied me, probably thinking I had an ulterior motive—flirting with the feisty new toy like the rest.

I had no doubt he trusted no one here would touch her. If it wasn’t for respect then for fear. Breaking that code would end in blood. We might have been a bunch of fuckers that lived for forever, but we still could die. An ugly, torturous, motherfucking death.

That didn’t mean the brothers didn’twantto fuck his sister. I…not so much. She was just…not for me. “You shouldn’t worry about me.”

His cold, hard blue eyes continued to pierce me. They had the same eyes Dasher and his sister. Except hers were still alive. “Why is that? You’re immune to the off-limit spell everyone else is under?”

I shrugged. “I guess. You shouldn’t pay much attention to it either. Hundred bucks, after one week no one will notice she’s even in the house.”

He smirked, waving a dismissive hand. “You’re on. Go get the medallion and meet us out front. I’ll get my bike ready.”

I left Church and knocked on Dasher’s—Vixen’s—door.

She opened it, still in her suit. Her eyes traveled down to my hands. “I see you’re not the one assigned to feed me or clean this dumpster. How can I help you, Mister Terror?”

I hated the way she spoke. Mister this, Mister that, yet every sentence condescending as fuck. “Do you have to be like this all the time?”

“Like what?”

Like an intolerable bitch.“Cynical.”

She cocked a brow, and then her lips twisted with a hateful smile. “It doesn’t strike me that you’re here to give me a piece of your mind about my personality, Mister Terror. My wuss of a brother forgot something important to your upcoming, totally legitimate exploit, and sent you to fetch it for him instead of getting it himself, right?”

Intolerable smart bitch.“Right. Now if you’ll excuse me.” I pushed the door open and went in, not waiting for permission. Another second in this fucking conversation, and I wouldn’t be able to contain the beast inside. She was getting on my nerves, the ones I’d been taming for years. The ones that if broke loose, she’d get hurt.

She barely made way, and her tits brushed my arm when I stalked inside. I swore in silence. The unexpected, unwelcomed heat running through my skin from the impact enraged me.

I rummaged through the dressing table drawer, got the cross blade medallion and shoved it quickly in my pocket. Then I marched to the door. She snorted as I was about to shut it.

I was going to leave without another word, but something made me turn. Her snort. Her never ending disdain. I couldn’t leave it like that or I was going to burst.

“You forgot something else?” she asked, her scornful smile on.

“I know you don’t like any of us, but for the record, not everybody here is drooling over you either.”

Her jaw flexed. “Glad to know.”
