“Sure.” I threw open the door. “Thanks for wearing earbuds to bed every night this week.”
Corey laughed. “Believe me, I was doing it for me, not you.”
My face burned, but happiness swelled inside me as I followed him up to the front door. When we got inside, Hank greeted me with a big kiss.
Exactly what I’d been craving since watching Darren and Linc together. Maybe that would be us one day, setting our wedding rehearsal dinner.
Corey mumbled something and walked away. I was too busy kissing Hank to notice. When we parted for air, I smiled up into his eyes. “Pack a bag. I want you in my bed tonight.”
“Yes, sir,” he murmured. “Who could refuse that kind of order?”
I grinned. “Not you.”
“No,” he agreed. “Definitely not me.”
I watched him walk into his room to grab his things, while the dogs mobbed me with affection. How lucky was I to have met a guy who loved dogs as much as I did? Who might even love me?
Hank had seemed impossibly out of reach for so long, but now he was mine.
And if I had my way, I’d keep him forever.
CHAPTER 27
Hank
We grabbedsome take-out and ate dinner, then settled in on Jamie’s love seat for a movie before bed. Bruno had climbed into my lap, and Tramp was lying across my feet, while Lady stretched out on the doggy sofa.
“So, how did work go?” I asked.
Jamie patted my thigh. “Corey’s learning fast.”
I hadn’t asked about Corey, but Jamie obviously sensed my concern for my brother. Not that I thought Corey would intentionally blow it after our talk in the hallway. I just really wanted this to work out for him.
For them both.
I chuckled. “I guess I’m pretty transparent.”
Jamie shrugged as he picked up the remote control and navigated through streaming service menus. “Corey’s doing great, so you don’t need to worry.”
“I do want to know about your day too, though,” I said. “Taking on Corey’s training must be a lot, and I know you’ve got events coming up.”
Jamie turned on Red, White, & Royal Blue. No great surprise. He loved that movie. I secretly did, too, but I loved the way Jamie swooned over Henry a little less.
Jamie tore his gaze from Henry’s dreamy eyes. “Hmm? What?”
I chuckled. “Should I be jealous right now? You’re looking at him likehe’syour Prince Charming.”
“Well, he is a prince,” Jamie teased.
I sighed and clutched at my chest. “You’re breaking my heart.”
“Aw.” Jamie leaned over and kissed the tip of my nose. “You’remyPrince Charming. I could never pull Henry, anyway.”
“Thank—hey, wait a minute!”
Jamie kissed my scowling lips, unable to hold back a giggle as he did so. I pushed him backward, lying my body over him. Bruno wiggled out between us with a grunt and hopped to the floor. I grabbed Jamie’s waist and tugged him further under me, pinning him to the sofa as I kissed him thoroughly.
“Not funny,” I murmured between kisses. “Don’t tease the poor guy totally gone for you.”
