He jumped out of the way and sent a shot of magic that blew up the massive crystal chandelier overhead. It crashed to the floor and shattered into thousands of sparkling shards. The next time I visited Hell, his home was in for one heck of a surprise.
None of our shots were aimed to do horrific damage, but they were aimed to maim. Plus, the Devil and I were True Immortals—impossible to kill unless we chose to die and ended ourselves with the Sword of Death.
As I got in a good zap to his rear end, he volleyed back with one that melted my favorite tennis shoes. A tiny part of me was having fun. It would be a little difficult to explain to Ethan why the Cressida House needed a major remodel, but my man loved me. It would be fine. He knew I was nuts.
A massive crack of blinding lightning and the boom of thunder that was caused by neither of us was sobering. The floor began to tremble and the walls of the Cressida House creaked and shuddered. We both stopped dead in our tracks and glanced at each other in alarm. As huge coconut trees burst from the marble floor and a troop of monkeys appeared, I groaned. I didn’t think today could get worse.
It could.
A riot of colorful wild flowers appeared in a burst of pink sparkling magic covering all available surfaces and leafy vines sprung up, choking the grand staircase. The entire foyer was now a jungle complete with parrots and a few tigers. I was seriously glad Ethan wasn’t here. He’d be pissed. The last time this happened it took a month and a shitload of magic to repair our home. When the ceiling opened up and a long silver stripper pole descended, Satan screamed… like a girl, then dove behind a tree and hid. If that wasn’t a pussy move, I didn’t know what was.
I stood my ground. Mother Nature was about to make her entrance.
