He kissed her mouth, then worked his way to her throat, her upper chest and finally her breasts. “I have to taste those perfect breasts now.”

He took a nipple into his mouth. Pleasure swept her away, and all that mattered was him. He slowly explored his way down her body. Restless, she urged him lower. At last, he focused on the part of her that ached for release. His lips, tongue and fingers drove her wild, and she arched up. “I’m about to climax.”

“Go for it,” he said, and did something with his mouth and fingers that pushed her over the brink.

She called out and lost herself in powerful sensations she hadn’t known were possible. When it was over, she lay spent.

“I think you liked that,” he said, smiling and smoothing her hair back.

“Understatement of the world. I loved it.” She let her hand drift over his broad chest and flat belly, then down further. He sucked in a breath and went still. “I think you like this, too,” she said, stroking him. Wanting to give him the same enjoyable release she’d had, she put her head down close.

In a flash, she was on her back. “No fair,” she said. “This is supposed to be your turn.”

“Save it for later. Right now, I need to be inside you.”

She wanted that, too. “Then don’t keep me waiting.”

Within moments a second orgasm hit. This one even better because they climaxed together.

After, they lay entwined the way lovers did in the movies. “We’re a good match,” Blake said.

“Really good. You totally took my mind off work.”

“I’d hope so.” He planted a tender kiss on her mouth. “I’ll be right back.” Dusk had become night and the room was dark. The hallway light was on, though, and she watched him pad out of the room toward the bathroom without a hint of modesty. A glorious male, sure of himself.

She liked him a lot. Or so she told herself, but a feeling dangerously close to love flooded her heart. Close? She was already there. Something she’d never admit to him, couldn’t. He didn’t feel the same way, and saying it out loud was too risky. Not about to lie in his bed waiting for him to come back like the lovesick fool she was, she sat up.

He was a stupendous lover, and for now that was enough. His interest in her wouldn’t last forever. When it ended, her heart would surely break. Regardless, she intended to enjoy being with him for as long as it lasted.

CHAPTER 24

Having cleaned up in the bathroom, Blake returned to the bedroom with a warm washcloth and towel for Vi. She wasn’t there. Huh. “Vi?” he called out. “Where’d you go?”

“I’m in the living room.”

Wondering at that, he descended the stairs. “I brought you a washcloth and towel,” he said, holding them out.

“That’s so sweet. I took care of myself in the bathroom down here.”

She seemed okay, but he sensed she’d pulled away, although he couldn’t put his finger on what was different. She was dressed in the outfit she’d worn to the store that afternoon, which made sense. It was that or dirty cycling clothes.

Disappointment flooded him. He wanted to have sex again. Apparently, she’d had enough. Must be having regrets.

“You’re sorry about the sex. Maybe we should’ve waited longer before we jumped into bed.”

“Are you deaf? I said it was great, and I meant that. Really, the best I’ve ever had.”

Her smile and the words eased his misgivings, yet she still seemed somewhat distant. “I agree, it was way up there. I loveyour body and the way you respond to me. You’re a dynamo in bed.”

“I am?”

“The way you took charge and let me know what you wanted, then when you climaxed? Super-hot. No one has mentioned that to you?”

“No, but the guys I’ve been with never turned me on much.”

Weird. “Because?”

“They were more interested in themselves than me. But you’re not like that.”
