“I’m glad you like it. And as much as I wanted to stay longer and talk with you, I have to get going. I have a scheduled meeting at eight.”

My head tilted up to look athim. “Are you not taking me with you? I thought you...”

“I thought you wanted to spend today with Jenny, learning how to drive, rather than spending time with me.” His voice sounded hurt.

“But I haven’t decided yet. It was just an option. Was it the reason you stormed off yesterday? Because I wanted to spend the day learning how to drive rather than go with you somewhere?”

He seemed taken aback by my question, but he did respond after a while. “Yes. That’s the reason.”

“Hmm. But I can change my mind, right? Unless, of course, you’ve change your mind and you don’t want me...”

“Come with me.” He didn’t let me finish my words.

“Okay!” I blurted out excitedly. “How much time do I have to prepare?”

“Ten minutes, but I will give you twenty. I’ll just have to drive faster. Do you think you can…”

“Yes! Stop talking and start working on yourself.” I told him as I placed the flowers on the table. I had to ask Jenny’s help to find a vase for them before we went.

“I’ll just shower quickly,” I told Riley as I made my way to the bathroom.

“Can I join you?” he asked.

“No!” I answered almost immediately.

Not that I didn’t want to, but if we wanted to make it in twenty minutes, he needed to stay away from me.

Chapter 44

RILEY.

Icouldn’t wipe the smileoff my face as I waited for Nadia to get ready. I was already at the front of the packhouse and was leaving instructions for my Beta since he wouldn’t be coming with me today. I’d bring two warriors with me to convoy with us for extra protection, not for me but for my mate. I knew I could protect her if anything happened, but I would never take any risk, so I needed extra men with me.

I smelled Nadia approaching. I turned around and saw her with two apples in her hands. “Breakfast.”

I just smiled at her. We could just grab breakfast along the way.

“I’m ready.” She smiled as she stopped beside me, acknowledging my Beta after he paid respect to her.

“Good. Shall we?” I placed a hand on her back, hoping she wouldn’t move away from it as I guided her towards the car.

Thankfully, she didn’t.

“Is the Beta not coming with us?” She asked after she buckled her seatbelt, her eyes looking at Beta Dominic, who was still standing by the steps as I maneuvered the car out of the packhouse grounds.

“No. But we have two warriors coming with us. They’re in the next car.”

“I thought, the Beta always comes with the Alpha wherever he goes.”

“Hmmm… Not in my case. Dominic has other things to do than follow me around, and the only time I would take him with me is if I needed a second in command.”

“Such as?”

“Attending boring meetings. I let him sit beside me, and he took all the information while I dozed off.”

She giggled, and it made my heart leap out of my chest.

“You’re joking, right?”
