EPILOGUE

1 YEAR LATER

Megan picked up the frame and hooked it onto the nail she had just hammered into the wall. The first piece of art was up. And it wasn’t really art at all—it was a reminder of the relationship they had. The frame was dark brown and held the ten-dollar bill that had the words “For you” written on it.

Neither of them could bear spending it, so instead, they framed it. And now it graced the wall of the brand new house they bought together in Wintervale, Montana.

Jeff’s arms circled around Megan as they both stared at the framed bill. “Who knew something so little could mean so much?”

Megan smiled. “I always looked forward to finding that bill each time I saw you. It was something fun between us when we were apart.”

“Same.”

A knock on their door had them both turning to look at it in confusion. They had just moved in the night prior with the help of all their friends in Wintervale. Their entire house was still in boxes since they had only taken the time to set up their bed before crashing for the night.

“Were you expecting anyone?” Jeff asked.

Megan shook her head.

They went to the door, and he pulled it open. Megan’s eyes widened. The entire Blake family and their significant others were all standing outside their house.

“Surprise!” Jessa yelled.

“What’s going on?” Megan asked.

“It’s your housewarming party,” Noah said.

One by one, everyone came into their house carrying gifts and dishes of food.

Megan watched wide-eyed. “But we haven’t unpacked.”

“We know,” Karen said. She hugged Megan and then Jeff. Her husband, James, hugged Megan next and shook Jeff’s hand. “We wanted to come help you both unpack, so we whipped up some food and here we are.”

“Well, Miles whipped up some food,” Ethan said. “I’m crap in the kitchen.”

“You guys didn’t have to do that,” Megan said. “But we appreciate it.”

Jeff nodded. “We really appreciate it. Thank you all so much.”

Jackson stepped forward with a finger in the air. “I just want to let it be known that I wanted to gift you a kitten, but everyone talked me down, which was bull. So if you want a kitten, I’ll go get one right now.Right now!”

Megan and Jeff looked at each other and shrugged before looking back at Jackson. “I love kittens,” Megan said.

Jackson’s eyes widened, and he turned toward his family, pointing at all of them. “I knew it! I’ll be back.”

Then, he ran out of the house.

“Are we going to regret this?” Jeff asked.

“Dude, be prepared to have five cats in the next two hours,” Noah said.

Megan’s eyes widened, and she looked at Mia. “Is he really going to get us that many?”

Megan and Jeff looked out the window to find Jackson peeling out of the driveway in his truck.

Mia shrugged. “Just embrace it. There’s nothing you can do now. He’s already gone.”

Miles’s daughter Emma laughed. “I’ll keep one of them if he gets you too many.”
