Without waiting for a response, Lily ended the call. She took a deep breath and let it out through her nose before picking up her drink and downing the rest of it.

“Bad break-up?” he asked.

“Nope,” Lily said.

She looked around for the bartender, who was at a table taking an order. The food couldn’t come fast enough.

“I’m Ethan,” the man said, while holding out his hand.

“Lily,” she said, hesitating only briefly before taking his hand and giving it a quick shake before releasing it.

The bartender walked over with her burger and set it down in front of her.

“Could I get this to go?” Lily asked.

“Sure thing.”

She was handed a takeout container, and Lily wasted no time moving the food off her plate and into it. Then she handed the bartender cash and told her to keep the change.

Ethan caught Lily’s eyes before she could walk away.

“I work at the resort where you’re staying, but I think you already knew that.”

Lily’s face reddened further, and she glared at him.

“Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need something,” he said, and she swore his eyes twinkled.

She scoffed, grabbed her takeout, and left without looking back.
