“Come here,” I uttered softly.

“Last time you said that, I ended up with you inside me.”

“Is there a complaint in there or do you just love being a smart mouth?”

She glanced back at me with a smirk on her lips, and I beckoned her with the curl of my index finger.Savannah shifted so she was snuggled into my chest, phone in hand, and my arm wrapped around her waist.I laid back and closed my eyes in complete contentment.

“I love you,” she whispered, making me look down at her.

“I love you, too,” I murmured, dipping to kiss her before laying back on my folded arm.

My fingers traced absent patterns against her skin as she said, “I'm meeting up with Nerissa later on for another girl's night.”

“Mhm,” I hummed, eyes half-lidded as I looked down at her.“Where at?”

She narrowed her eyes at me.“I'd tell you, but you'll just show up like the last time.”

“I told you, I was just in the neighborhood.”

“And that just so happened to be near the lounge we were at?At night?”

“My work takes me all over the city at the oddest hours, trouble.”

“Uh-huh.”She rolled her eyes and refocused on her phone.“Anyway, I'm inviting Ellie, too.”

“Ellie?”

“Remember, I told you she just moved here from New York,” Savannah said, shifting slightly so she was more comfortable against my chest, her hair tickling my arm.“The girl at my internship.”

The memory was coming back to me faintly, along with images of us fucking on the couch five minutes later.

“She's a sweetheart and I figured since she just moved here, it would be nice to have her around. She's been crushing it at the office, too.”

I loved when she talked about the office because you could hear how passionate she was about it.My girl was one of the select few who was selected to carry out their internship at Warren and Adams, the best law firm in the city.I remembered how worried she was about choosing a place to finish up her last semester, so when her professor gave her the good news, she came home smiling from ear to ear.

Needless to say, my woman was a badass.

“Way better than that entitled prick in the program.I already took the time to dig through the facts of the case, only for him to take my printout and hand it to Mr.Adams.Beyond annoyed.I mean, I know it's a cutthroat business, but have some decency. There isn't—”

She stopped mid-sentence, making my brows crease.I glanced down at her when her body went still, those eyes fixed on the screen.

“What?”I asked, my voice cutting through the quiet.“Baby, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, I just…” She trailed off, slowly lifting her head to look at me.Confusion and shock were written all over her face.“Did Benji tell you he was getting married?”

I blinked.

Then scoffed, a short laugh slipping out.“What?No.He isn't even dating anyone.”

“Uh, yeah.”She was already turning the phone toward me.“Isn't that from his dad's company?Looks like a wedding announcement to me.”

Something in her tone made the humor die immediately, and I took the phone. My eyes slowly widened, seeing headline after headline.
