“I have an idea. Let’s just be together. No long-term commitments, we’ll simply be together and take it one day at a time.”
“Meanwhile falling more in love each day.”
“I don’t know about you, but I’m already past the point of no return. It won’t hurt any less if we break up now than it will if we wait.”
“I think…I think you’re right.”
“So we’re together again? Even though I’m not quitting BFK?”
“Yes.”
“You’ll be able to deal with that?”
“I’ll learn. I found someone on the internet I think might be able to help me.”
“Who?”
“Over at the Jamison Hospital in Last Stand there’s a new counselor. I’m going to see about getting an appointment with her.”
“You said that didn’t help before.”
“I’m not sure anything would have helped before. But I think I’m ready this time.”
“I love you, Jedidiah,” Trevor said. He put his arms around her and kissed her. A kiss of promise.
“I love you, too.” She snuggled against him and he held her, thinking she could stay like this forever. Well, maybe not exactly like this.
“I wish I’d known you were coming.”
“Why?”
“Because I’d have worn something decent and brushed my hair and—”
He stopped her with a kiss. “You look cute. And as for clothes, I plan to get you out of them as soon as possible.”
“Now why didn’t I think of that?”
“I think I can convince the boss to let us take the day off tomorrow.”
“Good idea. The boss is very understanding.”
He stood and held out his hand. She took it, let him pull her up, and they walked hand in hand to her bedroom.
