“I do.” Problem was, she couldn’t look at him without wanting to kiss him. Without remembering what it was like to make love with him.

“Well, then. You can’t hide every time I’m around.” He held out his hand. “Friends?”

She put her hand in his. He looked down at her, the longing, clear and true, in his beautiful blue eyes. She didn’t know who moved first but somehow she was in his arms and they were kissing each other as if their lives depended on it. A hot, frantic meeting of lips and tongues, her body pressing against his as close as she could get.

He boosted her up and she wrapped her legs around him. He backed her up against the wall of the stall. Midnight nudged him and when he didn’t respond, he pushed him hard against her.

“God, Ella. I want you so much.”

“I know. I want you too.” It was stupid. Ill-advised. Irresistible. Being in his arms again felt right.

With her legs still wrapped around him, Chase walked out of the stall, grappling to close it behind them. She didn’t help. Instead she kissed him, everywhere she could reach. His mouth, his cheeks, his neck. He finally got the door shut and took her to her office, locked the door and pushed everything off her desk and laid her out like a sacrificial offering. But she’d never felt more alive in her life. She reached down and yanked off her boots, then lay back on the desk.

He pushed her T-shirt up, slid his hands beneath her bra and palmed her breasts. She gasped, loving the feel of those rough, calloused hands on her bare skin. He unbuttoned and unzipped her jeans and she raised her butt off the desk so he could pull them off.

They wrestled with clothes, flinging them everywhere, but he paused before sinking inside her. “Damn it!”

“What’s wrong?”

“No condom.”

She closed her eyes. If she hadn’t trusted him she wouldn’t be here right now. “I have an implant.”

“Thank God,” he said and plunged into her in a single deep push. He pulled out and drove in over and over, pushing her higher with each thrust. Moments later she came in a shattering orgasm, wave after wave crashing through her. Dimly, she heard him give a guttural groan and felt him spill himself inside her.

They stayed as they were for a long, long moment. She looked at him, sighed and cupped his cheek. “This is why I’ve been avoiding you. I was afraid this would happen.”

“Do you regret it? Because I don’t.”

“No, I don’t regret it.” How could she be lying there completely and thoroughly ravished? “But it can’t happen again.”

His eyes clouded. He moved away and began putting himself to rights while she did the same.

“Are you…angry with me?”

“No.” He shook his head. “But I don’t understand why you’re making us both miserable, insisting we break up when we still love each other.”

“It’s only going to get harder, the longer we stay together. I’m trying to spare both of us more pain.”

“Yeah? How’s that working for you? Because it’s not working at all for me.” He walked out of her office, shutting the door behind him with a bang.
