“No problem, but what am I supposed to tell him if he checks out decently?”

“Her. You know what to do. Give her a lot of encouragement but tell her you have to have our input for the final say. We might be back by the time you finish the interview.”

“Fine. What’s her name and where’s her résumé?”

“Her résumé is on the computer in the ranch manager folder. Ella Slade. Thanks, I’ll see you later.”

Ella Slade? Ella? Nah, it couldn’t be her.

What would the gorgeous woman he’d spent an amazing twelve hours with be doing interviewing for a job here? A ranch manager job?

He knew she’d been in Austin for a job interview, but she hadn’t mentioned what kind of job. He’d been over there to check out a new tractor. Afterward he’d stopped in at the Neon Moon, a place known for its great hamburgers, cold beer, and pretty women. He stopped there almost every time he was in Austin.

Chase wasn’t big on one-night stands. Oh, he’d had them but as he’d gotten older he’d had them less and less. He didn’t want to settle down but he didn’t mind going out with a woman more than once. Somehow those never lasted beyond a few dates, though. Then he met Ella and all bets were off. Something about her had grabbed him and not let go. That she was gorgeous didn’t hurt. But it had been more than that. If he was honest with himself he’d admit that he wished it could have lasted longer than one night. But that’s what they’d agreed on, so he didn’t try to learn more.

But he damn sure should have.
