“Oh, I’m fine. Nothing exciting happening on that front yet, just a human growing inside of me.”
“Yeah, well, I can’t wait to be an uncle.” I pulled her closer into my side.
“I can’t wait to meet this chick! I can’t believe she’s actually coming to hang out with us.”
“I owe it all to you.” I raised my beer bottle, clanking it against her water bottle. “I would have never gone up there if you hadn’t talked it out with me.”
“I’m just glad it all worked out. I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous for you to meet her.”
“Really?” I checked my phone again—nothing.
“I mean, what if she had been a raging crazy cunt or something?”
Olive’s voice came from behind us. “I hope I am not a cunt.”
I whipped around, Myla still holding on to my arm. “Definitely far from it.”
Myla started backpedaling. “I was just giving my brother-in-law a hard time.” She rushed over to Olive, throwing her arms around her neck. “So nice to meet you.”
Olive hugged her back, giggling. “Nice to meet you too.”
I shook Shaw’s hand and then started making all the introductions. When Myla introduced Shaw to Simon, sparks flew. They locked eyes, and that was all she wrote. Insta-love is real, they proved it to me in that moment.
“I thought Shaw was dating the guy he brought to the fight the other night,” I whispered into Olive’s ear as I opened a beer for her.
She put her hands up. “He is a little butterfly, whisking about, never tied down for long. He loses interest too fast for that. So, do you come to a lot of games?” Olive asked, and Myla piped up before I could respond.
“This is the first game I have ever been to with him, and I have been married to his brother for years.”
I rubbed the back of my neck. “My schedule usually doesn’t allow for much down time, and Gavin and my dad used to hate it when family came to games.”
“Oh, Gideon still hates it. But he has to deal. They’re stuck with me.” Myla took a seat, sitting cross-legged as she watched the players start to burst out onto the ice. She bounced in her seat, clapping excitedly.
Liv and I took seats next to her and Jordan joined us. “Wearing your beau’s jersey, I see,” I teased, jabbing Jordan in the side with my elbow.
“Hush, Griff. Don’t think I won’t kick your ass like I did when you were a punk kid.”
“I was eleven and you were sixteen—talk about an unfair fight, andyou’re a girl. I held back.”
Olive leaned over to get into our conversation. “Have all of you known each other your whole lives?”
Jordan started to explain. “I went to high school with Gavin and Sean.” She pointed to Sean, who raised his mixed drink in the air at the mention of his name. “Myla is Brayden Cox’s sister and Gavin’s wife, and Karla is Brayden’s wife. Jessica is Sean’s wife, and they were actually partners on the force before their relationship blossomed into a love affair. Oh, and Simon was Myla’s boss turned GBF.”
“GBF?” I asked, looking over to Simon, who was walking over to us while holding Shaw’s hand.
“Gay best friend,” he explained.
“Hey Shaw, you’re my GBF!” Liv smiled over at her bestie as he checked out Simon’s ass.
“They’re the best, aren’t they?” Myla asked Liv, and they both dove into a conversation as to why it is better to have a gay guy as a best friend than anything else.
“She’s great,” Jordan whispered before getting up to get us a few more beers.
The game started and within the first three minutes, Brayden was fighting with a dude from the other team and Gavin was trying to calm him down.
“When are you going to knock some sense into your man?” Myla asked, eyeing Karla.
“Hey, he’s your brother—why don’t you try?”
