“Time is over. Come here,” Tobias commands.
I wipe away the tears before turning around and walking to Daddy; I mean Tobias. I can’t start calling him Daddy when he hasn’t given me permission yet. I can’t get used to it and accidentally call him that again and be embarrassed when he doesn’t want me to call him that.
“Did you think about why lying is bad?” He asks.
I nod.
“And why is it bad?”
“Because it is deceiving the other person,” I say.
“Yes, you are correct. If you lie enough times, then it makes it hard for people to trust what you say. We care about you, and lying so that you think we won’t isn’t a good thing,” he explains. “I know you want us not to worry about you, but we are always going to worry about you. Even if you are healthy. I don’t want you to think just because you aren’t telling us things that we aren’t worried.”
“I’m sorry,” I whisper.
“It’s okay, Little One. You are forgiven for lying to me before this.” He kisses my forehead.
The guilt inside of me festers into a bigger ball, weighing me down. Because of all the other things I’m keeping from him.
“Let’s go cuddle on the couch,” he says.
“What about work?” I ask.
“I don’t have much work for the next two weeks. Besides, I want to be with you.”
CHAPTER 12
MILA
It’s been almost two weeks of staying at Whiskey River Mountain Lodge and for the most part it’s been relaxing.
“Has your boss said anything about you staying an extra week?” Tobias asks as we sit at the table.
Aiden is already filling our plates when he looks up at me. “Right, you were going to contact your boss to see if you could take the third week. I want to know as well.”
I rub the back of my neck. Shit. I knew this was coming.
“He said it was fine,” I reply, keeping my voice calm.
“Did he give you any trouble?” Aiden asks.
I shake my head. “No trouble at all. I think what happened really scared him.”
Shit.
I shouldn’t have brought that up either. Tobias still doesn’t know about it.
“So what exactly happened?” Tobias asks.
My eyes go wide, and I look away. Nope. I’m not going to answer this question right now. Not in front of Aiden when he doesn’t know the full details.
“Mila.” Aiden gives me a pointed look. “You still haven’t told him?”
I shake my head. “No.”
“That’s not right. You promised us both not to keep any secrets,” Aiden says.
“Not the only secret,” I mumble under my breath so quietly no one should be able to hear me.
