“You’re the man, Sean,” Mack said.

“I’ll be back soon, and you can tell me in person how great I am.” Sean laughed and hung up.

“I’ll download the files and get them printing.” Mack moved to his computer and opened the first file but felt Addy’s gaze on him. “I’ll start with your timeline. We can review that while the other files are printing.”

Mack sent three copies of all the files to the printer, then jumped up to grab the timelines. Kiley and Addy continued to talk about Evan—a great guy as far as Mack was concerned—yet Mack wasn’t going to let Kiley try to play matchmaker with him. Addy didn’t need any pressure in her quest to remember Mack. If indeed she was even trying to do so.

He handed out the timeline. Thankfully the women turned their attention to the pages.

Kiley tapped the top page. “This is fantastic.”

Mack looked at Addy. “You always were good at paperwork.”

“While you, on the other hand?” She clapped a hand to her mouth. “Another feeling. Am I right?”

“So right.” Kiley grinned. “He stinks at doing reports and often avoids it.”

Mack rolled his eyes. “Why don’t you really say how you feel.”

Addy glanced between them, a smile on her face. “You two sparred this way a lot, am I right? Like a brother and sister.”

“Yep.” Kiley looked proud of the fact. “And we still do. Mack’s the big brother I never had.”

Mack smiled and prayed that Addy would remember Kiley soon to know what an amazing person she was.

“So your dates,” he said, taking them back to the task athand. “Looks like you thought Razo was moving guns on the dates we have on the board.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Look at the last entry. It’s bolded and footnoted. Maybe means it’s the big event coming up.”

“And would confirm your thoughts of something going down in four days.”

“If so,” Addy said, her gaze bouncing between them, “we don’t have long before Razo uses the minigun in a mass shooting.”

Chapter 13

AT THE BASEMENTTABLEthe next morning, Addy watched Mack connect the TV to a video feed with Harris. She’d wanted to come to the safe house and meet with the team in person, but Mack had forbidden it. He didn’t want any chance that she could be tracked to this house. Nor did he want her to see that Addy was frantically reviewing her files.

An easy solution. The team gathered in front of the TV with a camera mounted above, and Addy remained off to the side at the table with her files. Obviously, Harris had to suspect that Addy wouldn’t step aside in the investigation, but Harris couldn’t have any proof that Addy continued to work the case. That would make Harris complicit in violating those wage-and-hour laws, and Addy didn’t want to put her boss in that position.

Harris leaned toward the camera. “Got our office call logs for the day of Leigh’s accident. She didn’t call anyone. Not even Rob Alberg. Anything new on her visit to him?”

“We hoped parking lot video from his office would ID the person who drugged her,” Mack said. “But the camera range doesn’t reach the area where she parked.”

Addy wished she’d parked closer in instead of trying to protect the Mustang. But she was thankful that Mack shared the information she’d gotten from Rob, so she didn’t need to talk to Harris.

“FYI, I got a call from Palmere,” Harris said. “The coffee inLeigh’s travel mug tested positive for the Rohypnol, confirming that’s how she ingested the drug. With her car being so old, it would’ve been easy for someone to use a slim jim to break in.”

Addy curled her hands into fists. She might’ve prevented this, if she’d only been thinking about potential ways Razo could harm her, instead of protecting her car and satisfying her need for caffeine.

“What are the plans to check out these internet cables?” Harris asked, thankfully moving them on before Addy said something.

Cam looked up from his computer, which Addy was learning he had open most every moment. “We’ve got analysts back in D.C. reviewing all border crossings that might have X-ray imaging systems plus have an oceanic cable in the area and experienced an outage. We hope this will narrow things down considerably.”

“Sounds like a solid plan.”

“Only problem is, it’s going to take time that we don’t have,” Mack said. “Addy’s timeline confirms the big event happens in three days.”

Harris muttered something under her breath and shook her head. Addy itched to weigh in on the discussion and not hold back, letting the team interact with her boss, but it couldn’t be helped.
