Bear sniffed with his big snout as he strained on his leash, leading Mack into the large carpeted room that held comfy leather chairs and a sofa grouped by a wood-burning fireplace. A round game table, large pool table, and a foosball table took up the far side of the room, and an old upright piano sat in the other corner. Not that anyone was taking advantage of any of these items. All three of his teammates were in the seating area, laptops on legs, concentration so focused they didn’t seem to notice him come down.

But Bear noticed them. He jerked on the leash, and Mack released him. He bolted for Kiley, pushing his nose at her computer screen.

“Hey, fella.” She closed her laptop and set it aside.

Bear leapt onto her lap and pressed his head under her hand. His large body barely fit on her legs, and he shoved his snout into her neck.

“Sorry about that,” Mack said.

“Are you kidding?” She ruffled the dog’s neck. “I love this guy.”

Mack looked at Bear, who was watching him with careful eyes. Man, Mack loved this guy too. Loved him a lot.

Kiley smiled at him. “Looks like you two missed each other. Too bad you’re separated.”

“Yeah,” Mack said and left it at that, even though Kiley was clearly fishing for information on Addy. “Bring me up to speed on what we have so far.”

“Sorry, I wasn’t able to track the email sent to Addy with her mother’s video.” Cam lifted his head. “And I’ve got a lot of digging still to do on Razo, but I just emailed his initial background info to everyone. Dude’s suspected of involvement in twenty-five murders.”

Mack’s gut clenched.

Kiley shot Cam a surprised look. “Seriously?”

Cam nodded. “Many different incidents. All in Mexico, but he used one of the miniguns to take out a supplier who’d done him wrong and his gang in one mass killing.”

Sean let out a low whistle. “So, if he’s the guy who took Addy’s phone, and he really wanted her dead, she would be.”

Mack’s gut tightened more, forming a hard ball as he grabbed a marker sitting in the tray of a portable whiteboard. Bear came to stand at Mack’s side, looking up at him with pleading eyes.

Mack had to work hard to ignore the dog for now. “Okay, so we have two investigations going on here.” He uncapped the marker and released the caustic scent into the air. He notedAddy Attempted Murderon one side of the board, andRazo Gunrunningon the other side. “We think they’re related, but as of now, we have no proof.”

He looked at Cam. “Unless you were able to enhance that video and find something damning on Razo.”

“I’ve done my best with the footage and don’t see anything new,” Cam said. “I also sent it on to D.C. to have one of our video guys work his magic. I did find a voice recording of Razo online. They’ll isolate the background, then do a voice comparison, but with the way this guy disguised his voice in the video, it might not be possible.”

Kiley cocked her head. “You found a voice recording for Razo?”

“Yeah, can you believe it?” Cam rolled his eyes. “The guy was dumb enough to do an interview with a Texas reporter five years ago or so. When will people realize that what shows up on the internet stays on the internet?”

“We might benefit from his ignorance.” Mack jotted the information on the board and turned back. “Let me know as soon as they finish the voice comparison and video evaluation.”

Kiley shifted her computer. “Even if it’s not Razo himself in the video, it’s likely one of his men.”

“Yeah, likely,” Mack said. “Can you get me a list of his key players?”

“I’ll do my best,” Kiley replied.

Mack held up the marker. “What else have we learned?”

“I need to image Addy’s laptop. I can come with you when you go back to the hospital or work on your other requests first.”

Mack hadn’t said he was returning, but his team knew him well and would know he wouldn’t be this far away from Addy overnight. Not even if a guard had been posted at her door. In fact, now that he heard about Razo’s kill count, Mack would work hard to convince her to let him sleep in the recliner in her room all night.

“Go ahead and start on the other items, and I’ll text you when it’s a good time for Addy.” Mack turned his attention to Cam. “Did you have any luck in locating backup files?”

He shook his head. “Fitz is still working on it. Some sort of glitch in the most recent backup.”

Sean swiveled to look at Cam. “If he doesn’t have something for us by the morning, I’ll take over so you can focus on tracking that video.”
