Addy shook her head, and an awkward silence fell over the room.

Harris hustled into action and set the laptop on a green vinyl recliner.

“Addy says you’re here to bring her up to speed on her current investigation,” Mack said.

Harris cocked her head. “That’s right. Operation Crossfire.”

Hearing the op’s name raised Mack’s interest even more. “Did she mention that she called me before the accident to request help from our team?”

“No.” Harris shifted her focus to Addy.

“That’s because I have no idea why I called them. The message Mack played for me said I wanted Cam’s help. He’s the team analyst. So I must have wanted data that wouldn’t be easy to come by.”

“I’ve been doing some digging,” Mack said. “Comparing the time of the voicemail and the time you were brought into the ER. Seems like you left the message shortly before the accident.”

“Likely,” she said, her expression downcast. “By the way, I remembered something.” Addy shared about her phone being taken from her. “Could’ve been Razo. Do you know if we have his prints on file?”

“Who’s Razo?” Mack asked.

“He’s a suspect in Leigh’s latest investigation, and we dohave his prints,” Harris replied quickly. “He’s been in and out of prison over the years and has a long sheet.”

“Then maybe we’ll have recovered his prints at my house or in my car.”

“Maybe.” Harris’s doubt lingered on her face.

“I really don’t want to think of someone like Razo in possession of your phone.” Harris frowned. “Fitz was unable to locate it using the app. Seems like whoever took it removed the battery. But he’ll keep monitoring it in case is comes back online.”

Addy rubbed her head. “I’m hoping once I dig into my files, I can figure out who took it.”

“Fitz is still working on getting the CCTV footage for the area of the accident, but I brought your computer so you can access your files.”

Mack wanted to say that last night he’d gotten Cam started on locating video files, and that Mack suspected Cam would have better results, but he didn’t want to antagonize Harris or Addy, so he kept his mouth closed.

“Let’s get the technical things out of the way first.” Harris picked up the laptop. “Your new phone’s in the outside pocket of the case, and it’s all set for our VPN so you can log on to the network and download your files.”

Mack met Addy’s gaze. “Seems to me your taking a rest after all of these visitors is a better idea.”

“All?” Harris asked.

Mack told her about the detective.

“Right. I’m already coordinating with him on the car and other evidence.” Harris’s focus flashed to Addy as she handed her the laptop. “Especially the coffee cup. I could see Razo drugging you after his threat.”

“Threat?” Mack asked, his pulse kicking up. “What threat?”

Harris grimaced and curled her hands into fists. “A man went to Leigh’s house, drugged her dog, tied up her motherand caregiver, and put a knife to her mother’s throat. Then he sent Leigh a video of him holding her mother hostage.”

“My mother!” Addy shot up in her bed and wobbled before she clutched the side rail. “Is she okay? And Bear?”

Harris held up a calming hand. “Fine. You moved your mom and her nurse into protective custody. You arranged that before you tore out of the office on the new lead. Your dog is sleeping off the drugs at your place.”

Addy sighed, her breath going on and on, sounding like a leaking tire.

“No one’s taking care of Bear, then?” Mack asked.

Addy shot him an odd look. “You know Bear?”

Right. She wouldn’t know that. “We adopted him together.”
