“I hope you don’t regret tonight,” Wolf said.

Jade blinked, studying him carefully.Wolf didn’t look uncertain often, but it was there, just beneath the surface.Jade’s chest tightened.

“I doubt it,” she said, meaning her words.

Whatever this was, whatever they were doing, she didn’t regret it.Especially not after the way he looked at her, touched her like she was a treasure.Wolf searched her face for a second longer, like he was weighing the truth of it.Then he exhaled slowly, some of the tension in his shoulders easing.

Jade shifted closer, her head settling against his chest this time, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her ear.It was strong, unshaken.

Her thoughts drifted back to earlier, back to the clubhouse and the way Wolf proclaimed to anyone listening close by that Jade was his.But what if he eventually changed his mind? What if whatever this thing between them was, had an end?

Yet, there was the other outcome. That this momentary happiness could last, turn into something permanent even.

Wolf brushed his fingers gently through her hair, tucking a loose strand behind her ear.The touch was softer than anything he’d done all night.Jade tilted her head slightly into it without thinking.

His fingers lingered, then his mouth followed. He pressed his lips at the spot just below her ear, at the curve of her neck.Jade inhaled softly. He moved to her pulse point, warm and unhurried, like he was mapping the place, memorizing it.

Her breath hitched when his teeth grazed lightly against her skin.Heat curled low in her stomach again, softer this time, threaded with something deeper.

He lingered there for a second longer, then pressed another kiss to the same spot, firmer this time, like he meant to leave something behind.A mark. Not visible yet, but she knew it would be.

“Wolf...”she murmured.Somehow, the thought of Wolf leaving this mark there and everyone at the club seeing it, made her feel a little excited.

“What?”he asked quietly, after leaving a hickey on her neck.“What are you thinking about?”

Jade hesitated. Why was he always so observant?Jade could lie, brush it off, tell him it was nothing, but then, that would make her a liar.

“The future,” she said.

Wolf tightened his hold slightly around her, like instinct took over before thought could catch up.

“What about it?”he asked.

“I don’t know,” she admitted.Jade gathered her thoughts, continued, “I don’t know where any of this is going, or what happens when Derek comes back or when the debt is paid, but I want to find out.”

There it was, the simple and terrifying truth. He didn’t answer her right away, but she could tell he was considering her words carefully.

“Get some sleep,” he eventually told her.“You’ve had a long day.”

Jade studied him for a moment longer, searching for something she couldn’t quite name, then she nodded.

Her eyes felt heavier now.The exhaustion she’d been holding off all night finally catching up.She shifted closer, tucking herself against him, her head settling under his chin this time.

Wolf tightened his embrace, anchoring her there.Jade let her eyes close.Wolf moved his hand up and down her back, his touch calming, his presence solid and unyielding behind her. Finally, sleep pulled her under.
