"Thanks."

She pours a cup. Doesn't sit down. Leans against the counter opposite me.

"I slept badly."

"Me too."

Silence.

She looks out the window.

"Gray."

"Yeah."

"I have two phone interviews today. Ten and three. Globe and Mail and the CBC."

"Okay."

"Is there somewhere in the house where the signal's best."

"Office."

"Can I use it."

"Yeah. I'll clear out."

"You don't have to clear out."

"It's fine."

She sets her coffee down untouched.

"Gray."

"Yeah."

"Are we going to talk about last night."

I look at her.

Then I look away.

"Not right now."

"Okay."

"Do your interviews. Get through today. We'll talk when you're done."

"Okay."

She picks her coffee up. Walks past me toward the office.

She pauses at the door.

Doesn't turn around.

"I didn't mean to hurt you."
