“I guess I don’t get a say in it?” Zane fiddled with the edges of his cuffs. I knew what he’d done, knew the punishment he had to serve was fitting. But I wasn’t as close to this as Max and the others, and part of me couldn’t help but feel for him. I wouldn’t like to beobservedand used as a learning tool either.
“Actually,” Max said, pausing with his hand on the back of a chair. “You do get a say. Only Mase and me are required to be here. Since we’re only going through the terms of your release with you, I didn’t think you’d mind Jake and Chylath tagging along. I apologise if that’s not the case. I can ask them to leave.”
Zane sighed. “No, It’s fine. I was trying to lighten the mood.” His gaze flicked to Gabriel, then quickly away again. “I guess we’re not there yet.”
“Maybe not yet.” Max grimaced but pulled out a chair and sat down. Gabriel did the same.
Since there were no more seats available, Chylath and I leant against the back wall.
A thin manilla folder sat on the table between them.
“Right.” Max produced a pen from somewhere and opened the folder. “Let’s get started.”
