Callum had half turned in his seat, searching out the back window. “Here too.”

Isaac cracked the door open and took a deep breath of the cool morning air. Foreign pack scents hit his nose, raising his hackles, but he ignored it, searching for the one pack scent they didn’t want to encounter.

McKillan.

Isaac cracked his neck, satisfied that no one from Michael’s old pack was in the immediate vicinity, and turned to the other two. “Ready?”

Alice nodded, “Yep.”

“Yeah, let’s get this over with.” Callum was already opening his door.

Isaac got out of the car, senses on high alert.

No one paid them any attention bar a few curious glances, but none gave them a second look, so Isaac led the way to the front of the building.

The door was open like Alpha Davidson said it would be. The place was also deserted, and their footsteps echoed along the hallway.

The room they were headed for was at the back of the building and as they rounded a corner, someone stepped out into the hallway ahead of them.

Isaac growled, low and menacing. The man was an alpha, but Isaac had no idea if he was who they were meeting or not.

“Isaac?” He put his hands up, palms facing them. When Isaac nodded, he added, “I’m Tom Davidson.”

As far as Isaac could tell, he seemed to be telling the truth, and Isaac relaxed slightly, still on guard though. “Have any of the others arrived?” He walked closer, Alice and Callum flanking him, and as he inhaled, he caught the scents of other alphas, answering his own question.

Davidson nodded. “We were waiting on you and three others.” He gestured to the door on his left. “Come inside and I’ll introduce you.” He waited for them to approach before going inside the room.

Instinct was something all shifters relied on heavily. Isaac was no exception, but despite a general feeling of unease about the whole thing, nothing felt off to him or his wolf, so he followed him inside.

The classroom was laid out exactly as Isaac had imagined. Four rows of two long tables with four high stools at each table. Six alphas sat in the front row, looking ready for today’s lesson, and Isaac had to fight the urge to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Davidson stood at the front and gestured to each alpha in turn, stating their pack name and territory. Some of them had travelled from the other side of London, and Isaac thanked them all for coming. He wasn’t the only one taking a huge risk here.

If any of them got caught crossing territories without either permission or a good reason, they could end up in trouble. And that was without the HRU getting involved. If they got wind of a meeting of alphas, Isaac had no doubt they’d all be in for questioning.

Alice and Callum took seats in the back row, while Isaac perched on the edge of the teacher’s desk, and they waited for the others to arrive.

The wall clock high above them ticked ominously, and Isaac tried not to fidget. He’d called this meeting. It wouldn’t do for him to appear anything other than calm and in control.

Thankfully they didn’t have to wait long, and by nine fifty, all nine alphas were seated in front of him, looking as expectant and as uneasy as he felt. Davidson stood by the open door, leant against the doorjamb, on watch.

“I know this is dangerous for everyone involved,” Isaac began. “So I’ll make this as quick as possible. We believe Simon McKillan has taken Logan McKillan’s parents hostage and is extracting information from them.”

A murmur went through the group. They’d all been told this information earlier, but it was still no less shocking to hear it again.

“Which is why we need to act fast. Simon doesn’t have all the information they know, or I wouldn’t be standing here right now. But I don’t know to what lengths he’ll go to get it, and none of us can afford to find out.”

“Do you know where he’s holding them yet?” Alpha Cox, Nick’s alpha asked.

“No. We have contacts in the HRU, but Simon isn’t sharing the location with them. He hasn’t even confirmed to his alpha that he has them.”

“What the fuck is Baker playing at?” One of the others spat.

Isaac bristled, but Cox jumped in before he had the chance. “You know Baker’s up against it. Simon’s been manoeuvring in secret for months. As soon as Michael left, he took that as a sign to do whatever the fuck he wanted. The other alphas on the council were terrified of Michael. They’d never have made a move against him, but Baker doesn’t have that same fearful respect yet, and Simon knows it.”

Davidson spoke quietly from his position by the door. “What’s the plan, then?”

Isaac swallowed.Here goes.
