When Callum nodded to say it was official, Isaac raised an eyebrow. “What are you looking for, exactly?”
Paul stared back at him, expression calculating, and Isaac knew what was coming. He wanted to see Isaac’s reaction. “We’re searching for Michael McKillan and several of his pack.”
He paused, and Isaac held his gaze.
“Why?”
“They’ve committed treason.”
Isaac said nothing.
“You don’t seem as surprised as I was expecting, Isaac.”
Isaac shrugged. “You know how fast gossip travels between packs out here. Especially when it’s about one of you London packs.”
Paul’s lips curled up into a sneer. “I’d think the treasonous acts of the alpha of one of the largest London packs are a little more serious than idle fucking gossip.” He snarled the last few words, but if he expected Isaac to be cowed, he’d be sorely disappointed.
“Your pack has a new alpha now though, right?”
“Baker.”
“So nothing’s really changed, then. Has it? Not for those of us out in the sticks.”
Paul scoffed and seemed about to burst into a long rant, so Isaac raised his hand and cut him off before he got started.
“You think he’s here?”
“It’s as good a place as any. And those who’ve escaped with him have been here before.”
“Who?” Isaac frowned this time because he wasn’t sure the pack rumour mill would’ve known all the details.
“Aaron, Logan, and Cole McKillan.”
He let out a low whistle. “Yeah, I remember them.”
Paul crossed his arms over his chest. “So you can see why your pack territory is a place of interest.”
“I can. I’m surprised it’s taken you this long to come here. If the rumours are correct, it’s been, what, four days?”
“If it’d been up to me, we’d have come here on the first fucking day.” Paul scowled and Isaac wanted to laugh. He knew very well that Baker had sent them looking elsewhere first.
“They’re not here,” he said. “But I know you’re not going to take my word for it.”
Paul laughed and shook his head. “Nope.”
Isaac spread his arms out. “Search all you want. We have nothing to hide.”
“For your sake, I hope that’s true.” He gestured to his team, and they separated, fanning out across Isaac’s territory.
Swallowing down the growl threatening to come out, Isaac rolled his shoulders and clenched his fists. “Make sure they treat my pack and their homes with respect.” Alpha power laced his words, heavy and threatening, and Paul flinched.
“Of course,” he gritted out.
Isaac nodded, then turned to Callum. “See that they do. Take Alice with you.”
Callum set off at a jog to catch up with Paul’s men.
“Alice?” Paul rolled his eyes, obviously underestimating one of Isaac’s most vicious fighters. She might look sweet and innocent, but she was far from it. “Don’t you trust me?”
