“That hockey romance that came in last week.”
Piper’s eyes light up. “Oh yeaaah. That’s a good one! I listened to the audio not too long ago. Prepare yourself for a new book boyfriend.” She points at Steph then turns to me. “You’d like it too, Luce, the male narrator they used has a super sexy voice. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll put it on hold for you.”
“Sure, sounds good. I can listen on my daily walk around the block.”
“Still doing that?”
“Yeah, Noah’s like a drill sergeant about me getting my exercise.” I chuckle fondly.
And then I smirk as a new thought occurs to me–
“Even though he works you outso goodin the bedroom?” my friend asks, essentially stealing my next line.
“Piper!” Steph squeaks, gaping at her.
“What? You and I both know she was just about to say something exactly like that,” she says, gesturing at me, and I cackle. BecauseI totally was.
Piper leans back in her chair, pleased with herself. “You said you had more to share about you and Noah.”
“I sure do. The man’s gotseriousskills in the bedroom,” I offer teasingly, since, you know, she went there first.
“Lucy,” Piper groans.
Steph giggles. “You asked for it, P!”
“I just love it when he tells me what a good girl I am,” I continue, licking my lips and giving an exaggerated shudder.
Steph slams her glass down on the table, coughing. I watch as a deep flush rises on her neck and face.
Honestly, does she even know me? I just love to get these girls going with the over-sharing and innuendos–it’s too fun. Their blushes are adorable. And God knows Steph could use some action, so I figure she can at least live vicariously through me for now.
I shrug. “I’ve got a praise kink,” I offer mildly.
My friends both shake their heads at me in mock frustration, but they’re unable to fight their amused smirks and soon we’re all grinning at each other.
“I thought you said you had somethingimportantto tell us,” Piper says, pulling out her phone to re-read our text. “Somethingnon-sex-related. Or at least, that was my understanding. You said, and I quote ‘you’ll want to hear this, trust me.’”
I sigh loudly. “Fine, fine. I do actually have something to share …” and then I trail off.
Suddenly I’m the one blushing. Why do I feel self-conscious about this? I never have any problem spilling the dirty details, but the emotional ones? It’s still hard for me.
“Well …?” Steph prompts.
These are my girls, though, and if I can be open about my feelings with Noah then I can do it with them too.
I take a deep steadying breath before I continue … and then I just blurt it out. “Noah told me he loves me.”
Piper and Steph’s eyes widen and then they both jump to their feet squealing. I can feel my face heating even further under their gazes, but their smiles are pure happiness. They’re happy for me. So I let my own smile spread wide as well. BecauseI’mridiculously happy for me too.
After a few moments of the two of them dancing around Piper’s kitchen–a sight I’m slightly embarrassed to have been witness to–they settle again.
“I’m so happy for you!” Steph crows and Piper nods repeatedly in agreement.
“Thanks,” I murmur, still feeling oddly shy.
“I guess this means you’re officially a couple now?” Piper asks.
“Yep. Officially official,” I nod.
