She nods, her eyes drifting closed.

I tuck her tighter against my chest, leaning in to press a kiss against her temple. “You should really try to get some sleep now, kitten,” I whisper against her skin.

“Hmmm,” she hums in response, and a few minutes later I let my own lids droop shut as well.

???

Lucy:We miss you. When are you done with work?

Noah:Sorry, it’s going to be at least another hour, babe. Are my girls doing okay? Do you need anything?

Lucy:We’re tired, but fine. Or … I’m tired, Cece’s fussy which I think in this case also means tired.

Noah:I’ll be back as soon as I can, I promise. I’m sorry I even had to go in at all, but my paternity leave wasn’t technically supposed to begin for another two weeks so I have to go over some stuff with Aidan before I can start it officially.

Lucy:I understand. Little lady came early.

Noah:She was excited to meet us.

Lucy::-)

Lucy:I still can’t believe you bought us a house! When can we go back?

Noah:Anytime you want, kitten.

Lucy:Tonight?

Noah:If you’re up for it. Maybe we should leave it a few days and just give you time to rest. You’re still recovering.

Lucy:But I’m so excited!

Noah::-)

Lucy:How did you even make it happen?

Noah:I reached out to Kim and she got in touch with that realtor we’d met when we toured the house. After it failed to sell in the fall the owners took it off the market with the intention of trying again in the spring or summer once tourism ramped up again. She helped me negotiate a deal and … voila.

Lucy:Wow

Noah:Also, let’s recognize the fact that I just said ‘voila,’ and though you can’t see it, I just accompanied it with a little exaggerated hand flourish as I finished typing and put my phone down.

Noah:It one hundred percent represents how much you’ve rubbed off on me.

Noah:Aidan is giving me funny looks.

Lucy:LOL! I did pick up on that ‘voila’

Noah:And?

Lucy:Cute as fuck

Noah:Cute enough to forgive me?

Lucy:You know I already did that.

Noah:Just making sure.

Noah:Love you.
