“Good night.”

The bedding rustles for only a moment. I can’t see her, but from the sound of things, she settles long before I do. I’m still tossing the sheets and blankets around like an Italian with pizza dough minutes later, but no amount of fluffing will make this situation pleasant.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” she asks for the second time tonight.

“Uh, yeah.”

She lets out a long sigh. “Why don’t we just share the bed?”

“No, it’s fine,” I tell her, even though it’s really fucking not.

“Cam.” The way she says my name is full of authority. The way it rolls off her tongue like that makes me feel things I’m not sure I know what to do with.

“Come on, buddy. Get up,” she demands. “It’s not like we’ll ever see one another again. It’s just sleeping side by side. Not much different from drooling next to each other on a plane, right?”

I only hesitate for a minute before I give in and join her under the covers. But would she wearthaton an airplane?

Flat on my back, I settle in. The mattress is surprisingly agreeable, though the sheets are about as soft as construction paper. I’ll take it if it means I’m no longer sprawled on the floor. This situation would be a lot more complicated if Hayden and I hadn’t just broken up. There’s no way I’d even consider sharing a bed with a smoking hot woman if that were the case. Especially one with lush lips, slender and toned shoulders…

My semi is back, and I’m lying right next to her. I adjust my sweatpants beneath the sheets, praying she doesn’t realize what’s happening.

“You good over there?” she asks.

Dammit, she’s no idiot.

“Mm-hmm, yup.”

Her response is a chuckle.

“What?”

“You sure you can handle this?”

Does she meanthisas in our situation, orthisas inher? Oh, I could for sure handle her, all right. That silky long hair wrapped around my fist and her firm ass beneath my other hand.I would devour you.

“I have a girlfriend,” I blurt. “Well, I did,” I clarify. “We broke up this morning. Actually, I was planning to propose to her today.”

She lets out a tiny gasp. “You were?”

Letting my head loll to one side, I survey her in the dark room. There’s just enough light coming in from the window to make out her features. “It was sort of an arranged thing.”

Joey rolls to her side so she’s facing me head-on, her face pinched in confusion.

“Long story.” Now is not the time to get into it.

“Do you have the ring with you?” she asks.

“Yeah, it’s in my bag.”

“Can I see it?”

“Nosy much?” I tease.

“Come on.” She slaps the sheet between us. “Humor me a bit. It’s the least you can do after you said you’d devourme.”

Fuck, did I say that out loud? Cringing, I fold over the side of the bed to fumble for my bag on the floor. I don’t even know why I carried it off the ship.

Joey sits up against the headboard and flips the switch next to her, bathing the room in dull light from the flickering sconce. As she’s situating herself, her hand brushes against my ass. “Sorry,” she says.
