I react without thinking, smacking the back of Harvey’s head the same way I do when Seiji says something stupid.

“Don’t ever say that again.” Harvey blinks at me, shocked. “You have a family. Every single person waiting for us downstairs is your family. Blood or not.”

He lets my words sink in, and his shoulders sag like a heavy burden finally lifted off them.

“I’m not really a kid person, but your little werewolf is cute as fuck.”

“Right?” I agree a little too enthusiastically, which makes Harvey laugh.

“I’m asking Grace for one as soon as we get through all this talking, bonding, and whatever other stages we have left.”

I’m surprised he’s ready to move that fast. Maybe Nevaeh was onto something when she said Harvey would be wrapped around Grace in less than a week.

“You don’t waste any time, do you?”

“The coven stole too much time from me, brother. Until today, having a mate, a family, a life outside that prison was a fever dream. I’m not wasting another second.”

It’s interesting how Nevaeh and Harvey deal with their pasts so differently. While Harvey wants to grab life by the balls and never look back, Nevaeh can’t stop looking over her shoulder, afraid of making the same mistakes and ruining her future.

I knew being around Harvey would be good for my mate. Selfishly, I want him close so Nevaeh has more than just me in her corner.

“If Grace is on board, go for it. With your genes combined, you’ll probably end up with a whole fleet of adorable little chaos gremlins.”

Harvey is practically swaying, smiling like a lovesick idiot. Nevaeh was right. Harvey really is a big teddy bear underneath it all.

“Imagine a little one with her hair and my eyes. The kid would rule the world.”

“I see your ego is as big as your head.”

“Hey,youdon’t get to call me a giant.” Harvey shoves my shoulder, slipping back into the version of himself I met a few hours ago. “You better be treating Nevaeh right, or I’ll happily dig you a grave in my future backyard.”

“You don’t have to worry. I can’t even think of a scenario in which I’d purposely hurt her. She’s my mate. I’ll do anything to keep her happy.”

I sigh tiredly, trying to fix the mess Nevaeh made of my hair. “Sometimes I worry she doesn’t think she deserves any of it. Like she’s too damaged to be pieced back together.”

“She is.”

The certainty in his voice startles me. I don’t understand how they both believe they’re unworthy, but I bet it has everything to do with that witch. It’s going to take some time and a truckload of love and patience to convince these two that we’renevergoing to leave or hurt them.

“Just… don’t give up on her.”

“Never,” I promise, climbing down and dusting off my pants. They were perfectly ironed once. Shame.

“Let’s head back before someone comes looking for us.”

When we return to the penthouse, everyone is already turned in for the night except Grace. She was waiting, and the moment she saw Harvey, her smile nearly blinded me.

Seiji is about to lose his bet… and his mind.

18. What rhymes with love?

After Angel and Harvey slipped away to talk, Hazel barged into my room and ordered me to take a quick shower while she got me something to eat.

By the time I was done, Grace had already tucked my little boy into bed. I didn’t want to disturb August’s sleep, so I decided to wait for Angel in his room.

I had barely sat on the bed when Hazel marched in, arms overloaded with snacks, and dumped the entire pile on Angel’s nightstand.
