His eyes soften. “Never, sweetheart.”

“I’m not taking risks. I know everyone here is more than capable of handling themselves. I don’t mean to jump in.

“And that’s what worries me.” He kisses my forehead, but the tension remains.

A wave of dizziness washes over me, and I rest my head on Angel’s shoulder, waiting for it to pass. When the heartbeat beneath my cheek picks up dangerously, I force my tired eyes open to find my mate’s gaze fixed on my healing cuts.

“I’m okay, Angel. Just a little dizzy.” I try to assure him, but I know he won’t believe me until he’s checked every inch of me with his own eyes and hands.

For someone whose mate is covered in decade-old scars, Angel hates seeing something as small as a mosquito bite on me.

It doesn’t take us long to find the realm’s exit, and once again, we’re standing before a cliff.I’m sensing a pattern here.

Seiji dives first into our experimental exit routeaftercomplaining about how we have no regard for his precious young life.

Harvey ushers Grace to go next, following two seconds later with the unconscious soldier slung over his shoulder. Hazeljumped last after making sure we weren’t followed.

I whimper when Angel shifts me in his arms, wrapping my thighs around his waist. Cradling my face in his hand, he asks, “Trust me, sweetheart?”

“With everything in me.”

There’s no hesitation this time. Angel has proved he’s the only one for me. He never fails to make me feel protected and loved.

“Thank Fates. I was going to ask you to jump with me, and it would’ve been awkward if you said no.” He grins like a Cheshire cat, lips brushing mine.

He takes my bottom lip into his mouth, sucking lightly. The kiss is so soft that it weakens my already shaky knees.

“Close your eyes, baby.”

I hide my face in his neck and squeeze my eyes shut, trying to ignore the sudden whoosh of wind and the feeling of not being on the ground anymore. Wrapped in my mate’s warmth, I trust him not to let go.

I jolt when he bumps my forehead with his, and I see we’re back on solid ground and out of that cursed realm.

Angel carefully sets me beside my horse so I can lean on Diamond, then strides toward the battered soldier with calculated steps.

When he grips both sides of the warrior’s head, I immediately notice the change in his body language. The muscles in his back tense, and the veins in his forehead protrude as he forcefully invades the warrior’s mind.

“Archangel Michael. You know very well we don’t appreciate obedient dogs sniffing around our business, yet you don’t seem to heed our warnings. This is myfirstandlastwarning to Heaven. Do. Not. Interfere. Unless you’re prepared for a war, we both know you won’t win.”

When the message is delivered loud and clear, Angel tosses the warrior off the cliff.

He comes back and carefully helps me onto his horse before mounting behind me. I’m surprised when Diamond followsAngel’s lead without hesitation.

I’m glad that even when I’m not his official rider, he recognizes Angel as my mate and respects him as a Horseman.

“Rest, sweetheart. I’ll be right here when you wake up.” Angel presses a kiss to my forehead softly, and my eyes flutter shut.

Nevaeh

The staircase leading to my warm bed and shower is calling my name when Angel’s womb provider storms into the castle, her scowl doing nothing to hide her wrinkles.

Apparently, I haven’t suffered enough today.

Kiara has her claws out, demandingto speak with Angel privately. To her utter displeasure, I refuse to move an inch away from my mate.

I don’t know how Angel can act like Kiara aggressively pacing our living room, rambling about Fates knows what, is normal. He urges the group to settle down for the night, wanting to wrap this up on his own as quickly as possible.
