“Just a small thing. I have heard great things about the man you call Monster, maybe he is the right person for the job.”
“It would depend on the job. He isn’t a hitman. I won’t risk him going to prison for you.”
Gio waved away my words. “Please it’s nothing like that, we need someone seduced, that is all. I am sure he won’t find it hard. She’s a beautiful woman.”
“Then why don’t you get one of your men to do it?” Something didn’t add up.
“We are known to her, and her father is being problematic. But he loves his daughter like any good father does. He would never let her name be…”
I stopped him. “Don’t say another word, I get it.” Sighing, I closed my eyes just for a second. God, I was getting too old for all the drama that seemed to come with club life.
I had always been sure that leading the Savage Sons was what I wanted to do with my life. I loved my club and my brothers, but I was starting to want more as well.
And that more was Gypsy.
“I will have Monster call you, he can decide whether he wants to do this for you or not. I won’t force him to. He may have a woman somewhere I don’t know about.”
I doubted he did, but I couldn't order him to seduce a woman just so I could get The Family off my back.
“That’s fine. And in return, here.” Gio pushed a manilla file over the table. “I said I would do you a favour in return, Fang, and I am a man of my word.”
I stared at the file without touching it. “What is it?”
“Everything you need to know about your new lady friend. Her background and…”
“I know everything there is to know about Gypsy.”
He held his hands up in surrender. “I’m sure you do, but there are things in there you should probably take a look at. Especially about her ex.” Gio leant back on his chair as I pulled the file towards me and started to read.
Gio’s next words chilled me. “Or more importantly, her ex’s family.”
My eyes narrowed as I skimmed the pages. He had done his homework thoroughly. More thoroughly than Cyber had. Not that I could blame my club brother. I had asked him to dig into Gypsy's background, not her ex-fiancé’s. I had been a fucking fool.
“Do you see what I see?” Hansel muttered.
“Yes.” The legs of my chair made a screeching sound as I stood up. “Yeah, I fucking see.”
I wasn’t sure how I could have been so blind. I had known right from the beginning that she wasn’t to be trusted, and I had ignored my gut.
“Get Pope on the phone now,” I barked at Hansel, heading towards the door, the file clutched in my fingers.
How the hell had I been so stupid?

Jesus Christ on a cracker,my head hurt. It felt like someone was drilling into my brain.
I squinted, opening my eyes just a touch. I didn’t want her to realise I was awake if I could help it. Not straight away anyway, because I remembered everything. Right up until Melanie had smashed my head against the window for the third time.
She had taken me by surprise, but it was her betrayal that stung the most. I had trusted her. And so had my dad. There was no way on God's green earth he would have sent her if he didn’t. My father had many faults, but he loved me.
I half expected to see a lone light bulb swinging over my head, figuring that’s how those situations usually played out. The attacker would take their victim to some dimly lit, one lightbulb warehouse, all creepy and shit.
But there wasn’t a lightbulb. Instead, I found myself staring at a ceiling painted cream not that far above my head.
My eyes flew open. A cream ceiling with a smudge of footprints on it. Small footprints.
