I had to remember he was doing this for me. To keep me safe.
Which was more than his brother had done when some stranger had his hand on my breast groping me.
Havoc was going postal just because someone looked at me wrong and said something crude.
I didn’t understand it, but I didn’t have to. I just had to keep quiet and play along.
“Do you understand what I’m saying?”
“Yes.” The voice was warbled.
“Good.” His hand loosened, and the man sagged against the wall. His face was lined with anger.
This wasn’t over. I knew it just by looking at them. It was far, far from over.
“She’s my woman; no one touches her. No one ….” He glanced at me over his shoulder. “Stay here. I’ll take you for that shower when I get back.” His blue eyes met mine. “Don’t leave this room without me. These fuckers obviously can’t be trusted around you yet.” He seemed to be waiting for my answer, his eyes narrowing.
I nodded once.
There was no way in hell I was leaving the room without him. If he didn’t trust his own friends, then I sure as hell didn’t either.
I would stay right here.
“And lock the door behind me.”

“It’s just me.” His voice was steely from the other side of the closed door and I hurried across the small room to throw the bolt and let him back in.
Stepping back instinctively as the anger on his face washed over me. Whatever had happened in the fifteen minutes since he had left had obviously not been good.
I was about to ask him what had happened when he started laughing.
”What?” I smoothed my hands down the outfit I had picked out from the clothes that had been left for me.
I hadn’t thought I looked terrible, so his laughter hurt. “You don’t like it.” I popped out a hip in the tiny denim shorts that were far too small for me. And his eyes followed the movement like I knew they would.
He really did have a thing for my hips.
At first, I thought I had imagined the way his eyes and hands seemed to linger. But I was pretty sure of it now.
“I like that you have so much skin on show but do I like you wearing those?” He shook his head. “No, I don’t like you dressed like a club girl. I like you soft and feminine.” He added as an afterthought. “But it’s fine; we are out of here. Put your own clothes on. I’ll take you out shopping later today or tomorrow, so you have your own stuff….” He frowned, turning to me when I didn’t move. “What is it?”
“Where are we going?”
“My house. Well, my mum’s house anyway. Fang thinks it might be safer if you stay there for now.” He didn’t seem too happy about the idea. His frown deepened.
“You want me to go and stay with your mum?” I couldn’t keep the shock out of my voice.
“No. My mum is… well my mum doesn’t live there. No one really does. I only stay there now and then, so it’s nothing special. Hell, I can’t even remember if I’ve done the dishes.” He gave a shrug. “But you will be able to have a shower in peace at least. You will be safe there.” He added as an afterthought.
“Your family home?”
He raised an eyebrow in question.
“Are there going to be pictures of little Havoc?” I couldn’t help the giggle in my voice.
He was such a brute of a man. All muscles and anger…no, not anger.
