“You do. Your brain just had its wires crossed for a second. That doesn’t mean we don’t love you and care for you.”

Fresh tears spill down my face at the word love. “I abandoned Alvin.”

“You didn’t. You put him in the right hands.”

A strangled sob escapes me. “I had a breakdown over a piece of string.”

“And I lost my mind when my pack was in a minor fender bender. Do you remember that? I left town for aweek, and nothing bad actually happened to them.”

I do remember that. Blair tragically lost her old pack in a car accident years ago. Then, when she met Travis, Ryland, and Rowan, she did everything she could to ignore the scent match. When she finally fell for them, they crashed their car, and she couldn’t handle it.

It triggered her so badly she ended the relationship and refused to talk to us for a week.

Thankfully, it all worked out.

“Yeah, I remember,” I whisper. “But yours was warranted.”

She ignores my argument. “And Piper ended things with her pack, including Avery, when Poe signed the paperwork on the sale to the rescue, without giving him a chance to explain himself.”

“Yeah, but those made sense?—”

“Your feelings are just as valid as ours, Maeve. You can argue all you want, but you don’t need to be ashamed of how your brain functions.”

I huff.

“Heaven forbid the girl that loves catscries about a cat she loves,” Blair adds. “Which we all have done, by the way.”

I nibble my lip nervously. “I destroyed my nest,” I admit quietly.

There’s a heavy sigh. “Of course you did,” Blair says. “Good thing you have three Alphas that adore you and would help you make a new one.”

“I ripped up all my nesting blankets.”

“Been there, done that.”

My eyes widen. “Really?”

“Yes! You’re not alone in this, Maeve. We all have our moments. I mean this in the most loving way possible—what you’re going through is not special. We all have our breakdowns, our freakouts, our spirals. Even the most well-adjusted, healthy person on earth falls apart sometimes.”

“I don’t feel healthy or well-adjusted.”

“I know. And maybe, when you’re up to it, we can all help you look at other suppressant options. You know there’s differentformulas, right? Some of them can affect your mood. Maybe there’s a better suited one for you.”

“Oh. That’s something I never considered before.”

“Yup. We could figure that out together, one day? You want to set a goal for that?”

“Yeah. I could try.”

I sound miserable.

Everything seems so hopeless right now.

Even though Alvin is alright, I still can’t get the sensation of being worried out of my body.

“You should spend some time with your Alphas, Maeve. Take the day off tomorrow. Charity can fill in for you.”

“Charity?”
