When I came to, I explained to them what Reggie had told me, and Crew had to carry me to the car because I couldn’t even stand.

We rushed all the way to the hospital, and ran into the emergency doors, where my baby daddy’s family was all gathered around, crying, acting like they were victims of some shit they caused.

Seeing them standing there caused something in me to snap and I ran up to Reggie and punched him dead in his damn face, grabbing him by his nappy ass hair, trying to slang him to the ground.

“How the fuck could you let this happen to my son?! Why the fuck weren’t you watching him?! Why was he playing on stairs that had a piece of metal sticking out in the first place, but you wanted to judge my parenting nigga!”

“Listen, it wasn’t my fault!” he shot back, trying to pull away.

“He was outside playing with his damn cousins, and we didn’t know he was on the fire escape!”

“Well, this is still your fault because it happened in your care! You took him from me because you said something was going to happen to him because of street bullshit! You kidnapped my baby and would not give him back! Now look!”

“What are you talking about, Jasmine. What do I need to know?” Crew asked, stepping forward, making Reggie’s face look even more terrified than it already was.

“Man, I don’t have time for this shit Crew.”

“Time for what, pussy? I haven’t slapped you yet.”

“Man Crew, I’m worried about my son, right now, alright?”

“You're right. The main focus right now is RJ, so I’ll let you make it. But we will talk later.” Crew stared him down for a minute and then turned to me.

“Jasmine, why didn’t you tell me what this nigga was doing? We could’ve gotten him back because you know there ain’t no nigga protecting him as I would have.”

“Crewshon, it’s not the time to blame her for anything,” Pernelle said. “We just need to pray for the baby and trust that he is going to be okay. We all have to stay calm and not cause any extra drama here. Has anyone called your mom yet?”

“I sent Porsha over there to get her. She's going to need help getting up here.” Crew spoke in a low tone to Pernelle.

Hov grabbed Crew by his wrist and pulled him to the corner to talk. The rest of them tried to sit down, but I couldn’t. I just kept pacing the floor back and forth.

After about thirty minutes, a doctor came from the back.

“Is the mother here? The father?”

“Yes, yes, I’m here,” I said quickly.

“How is my baby doing?”

I held my breath. I didn’t even want to breathe until I knew that RJ was not only breathing but breathing just fine and on his own.

“Okay, RJ has lost a significant amount of blood, and in these cases, we do give blood transfusions. But RJ has a very rare blood type that the hospital doesn’t have on hand. However, chances are most of the time the blood type is seen in either a parent or a sibling, and since both of his parents are here, we would like to test you both to see if it matches to get him help. The quicker we get this done, the better his chances of survival are, but we have no time to waste.”

“Alright, let’s go. Let’s do this,” Reggie said quickly.

I bit my bottom lip.

Survival.

“So, if we don’t hurry up and get this done, my baby could die? That’s what you are saying, doc?”

“Yes, you heard what he said, Jas, so let’s just go to the back and get tested,” Reggie added.

“Have you two been tested for your blood type before to speed this process up?”

“No,” we both said simultaneously, shaking our heads.

“Okay, then it’s best for us to go back and test now.”
