“No.” She smiles as if remembering something. “But can you imagine his face when I was the one that showed up to pick up his car. It was amazing, Sophie. Made my fucking day for sure!” She is almost giddy with joy.

“Kendall,” I try to interrupt her celebration, but she continues to bask in the glory.

“It was like he swallowed a bug, sucked on a lemon, and got a prostate exam all at the same time.” She laughs. “There were so many things going on with his face and body at the same time, itwas incredible to witness. Almost like my crazy ass neighbor on one of her midnight trips around the block in her sheer pajamas. Something I’ll never be able to wipe from my mind. Only this made me happy, the neighbor thing makes me nauseous.”

“Kendall,” I say again and she smiles, finally looking over at me.

“What?”

“Did you do something to Ryan’s car?”

“Uh no, not me,” she says with a straight face. “But apparently he’s currently screwing around with two different women at the office and they found out they weren’t his one and only. So they decided to team up and create some havoc.”

I stare at her, seeing the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on her face.

“Sugar in the gas tank, a potato in the tailpipe. Oh and they carved ‘I love dick’ in the roof of his car.” She giggles, yes I said giggles. So unlike her to react but like I say she is giddy with joy.

Crossing her arms over her chest she grins, like she is the one that destroyed Ryan’s beloved sports car.

“I asked him if I could get their numbers because I wanted to take them both out for a drink. Those ladies are my kind of ladies.” She laughs. “He didn’t like my joke though and when I offered him a ride and he started to walk to my truck I stood there laughing at him.”

“You gave him a ride?”

“No.” She wrinkles up her forehead like I’m the one acting insane. “I climbed inside, hit the auto lock on the doors, flipped him off, and drove away with his car on my truck. Blasted the music too and had a little celebration on the way.”

“Are you serious?”

“You know I am,” she adds with a little wave before walking inside the shop.

“Have I told you yet today how much I love you?” I yell and she spins around walking backward.

“Oh babe, you don’t need to tell me daily, I know I’m your favorite.” She holds her hands out to her side like she is the queen. And right now, in this moment she is my goddess!

Right now, I can’t even argue with her. Because today, she most definitely is my favorite person on the planet.

Suddenly the irrigation I felt is depleted and I can’t even remember what I was irritated about to being with.

“Remember we have pedis on Saturday,” Kendall hollers out and it all comes rushing back. “This will be the perfect conversation topic too.”

The bellabove the door chimes and I peek around the shelf just as Sophie steps inside. Setting the box down I stand up and step out into the aisle.

“Hey, Sophie,” Maggie says then she notices me. Glancing between the two of us I think she gets that we need a minute and excuses herself.

“You finally decide to talk to me again?” I ask, holding back my smile.

“I’m not mad,” she says and I raise a brow in question. “I’m not,” she says and I can imagine her stomping her feet like she has so many times before. “I can’t talk about you.”

“What?”

“When we go to salon it’s what we do. It’s almost like a therapy session, or a happy time when we brag about what’s going on in our lives. We share things about our boyfriends and now I can’t do that.”

“Why?”

“Because at the mention of your name all I am going to be worried about is them reliving those times. Or them laughing at me thinking we had him first. It’s gross and disturbing and frankly it pisses me off when I know I shouldn’t be pissed. Which only makes everything so much worse and I feel like a fool. This is completely adolescent, I know this, but it doesn’t make it stop.”
