“You have no idea.” I laugh, suddenly embarrassed for my enthusiasm. “Are you working at the store today?”

Piper folds her legs under her. “Not until later, but Gabriella’s coming over.”

“For breakfast?”

“She’s going to propose we have a threesome with this other butch woman she knows from the gym.”

I sit up straight. “Wait, what?”

“She doesn’t know I know, but she also can’t hide anything from me. She fished around to see how I would feel a couple of times.”

Piper says it so casually, but it seems like a hug deal to me. “What are you going to say? Have you seen the woman? Have you ever had a threesome?”

She gives me a smug smile. “Detail for detail, sweetie.”

“Ugh.” I laugh, then toss an embroidered floral throw pillow at her. “Fine, he…” I search my mind, trying to figure out what makes appropriate gossip material. “He fucked me against the pinball machine,” I say. “And again in the shower this morning.”

Piper sniffs the air. “I’m glad you showered.”

“Very funny. So have you ever had a threesome before?”

“Nope. Your turn.”

“Um…” I tap my finger against my lip. What I’m really thinking about is just how nice it was to sleep next to him and share a warm bed. Caesar pulled me into his big bear hug all night, snoring softly, and when I woke up in the morning, Grace was snoring, too, and sleeping on my feet.

Literally the comfiest I have ever felt.

“Before Caesar, I’ve never had unprotected anal sex with another person,” I tell her. “I can, like… feel stuff inside me.”

Piper waves her hand in the air. “Hold up. You’re not using protection? Drew, tell me why you are not using protection with this guy!”

I clear my throat. “Your turn,” I correct her. “What are you going to tell your girlfriend?”

She rolls her eyes. “Duh. I’m going to tell her yes, Drew. She wants to tag team me with another butch, so I will obviously be saying yes. Now why aren’t you using a condom?”

“He hasn’t had sex in years, and neither have I,” I tell her. “And I know he’s not lying about that because I just do.”

“Wow.” Piper crosses her arms and leans back, impressed. “You really like this guy.”

“I do.”

“Are you going to go for it? Try to make it a thing?”

Something sharp pierces my chest as I shake my head. “Not now. I have to go back and deal with my life first. But maybe later?” I shake my head, confused. “It’s ridiculous to think about moving here for a guy I’ve slept with twice, right?”

“Maybe, but it’s not ridiculous to think about moving here to hang out with your friend.”

“Thanks, Piper.” I smile at her, then suddenly laugh. “Oh my god, speaking of. I got Caesar to agree to take me out with his friends.”

“He has friends?”

“Kind of, I guess. He wants to be closer with the other tattoo artists at his shop, but he’s so grumpy, no one reaches out to him.”

“Except for you.”

I shrug. “If it goes okay, maybe I can get him to hang out with you and Gabriella, too.”

Maybe I’m still dazed from all the orgasms Caesar gave me, but I let myself enjoy the fantasy for a while, gossiping with my friend and imagining what a real future with Caesar might be like. Before I lose myself too far in the delusion, though, I make up an excuse to slip away. Piper is being beyond generous in hosting me at her little apartment, and I want to make sure she and her girlfriend have plenty of privacy.
