I gritted my teeth together. I fucking hated calling it that, and I felt an urge to interrupt them all right then and have it out.

Actually, the three of us are fucking, so we’re not exactly bachelors, thanks.

Since that wasn’t possible, though, I swallowed the frustration down. “Camille and Peyton broke up,” I told Russell.

“Aw, Peyton, I’m sorry,” Russell said. “Can I do anything for you?”

“Just being with you three is perfect, thanks.”

“Go then,” Casey said with a nod to the living room. “Give me a little space and I’ll whip up some dinner quick. We can get to drinking and playing cards later.”

I nodded. It made me proud of Casey to see how he was always looking out for everyone like that. Even though his smart ass didn’t usually have it in him to be sentimental, I knew he showed his feelings in the kitchen, and his eagerness to feed us all was a sign of how he really felt right then.

One more time, I wrestled down a strong, almost urgent need to tell Peyton the three of us were together. It was fucking ridiculous, since I definitely needed to have a conversation with Russell and Casey before I would do something like that. But it was there anyway, frustrating me.

Because my mom knew me better than anyone, and she was damn right. When I wanted something, I went out and got it.

And fuck, I really wanted Casey and Russell.

“Hey buddy,” Peyton said, waving a hand in front of my face. “You coming, or you just going to stand there frowning?”

“Yeah,” I grunted. “I’m coming.”
