Irving turned, then threw his hands up in the air. “I guess that’s it, then.”

“What?”

“He did you a pretty solid favor, so I guess we need to pay him back, even if he does act like an ass sometimes.”

“What do you mean?’

Irving pulled another record off the shelf, spinning it in his hand. “If Justin Frisk comes to Seattle at the end of every summer like that article claims, he could be here any day now. All it would take is that kid telling his father that some roughed-up guy from the bar has been messing with him, and Brick will be in a world of pain. If nothing else, we owe him a heads-up.”

Looking at Irving as he spoke, I didn’t see a frown. With his eyes flashing, I saw determination. I saw a man standing up to do the right thing, even though it wasn’t easy, and in an instant, my crush for him grew a little deeper.

“Well then,” I asked, “what are we waiting for?”
