I hugged Scott against me, careful to avoid his injured shoulder. “We’ll figure this out. You’re not going to fail.”

He grinned down at me. “Confident, are we?”

“Yeah, and don’t forget it.”

“I don’t think you’ll let me.”

I went straight to the patio when I arrived home. “Grant?”

He appeared, his eyes widening as he absorbed my mood. “Hello. You look agitated.”

“I am. Scott has a terrible problem.” I explained it briefly while Grant listened with eager attention.

“Your assessment is correct. Will you give him one of your wishes?” He sounded hopeful.

“I want to give Scottallof my remaining wishes.”

Grant seemed to deflate. “It isn’t permitted. You can’t simply turn me over to someone else.”

“Then I’ll have Scott tell me what to do each day, and I’ll pass them along as my wishes.”

“That is not in the spirit of the arrangement. The League has rules.”

“Could you bend them? Please?” I wanted this so badly for Scott. It would solve all of his problems. The B&B project would turn out even better than planned.

“I cannot. However, I might be able to arrange an alternative, for I too would like to see Scott succeed. Let me ponder the possibilities.”

“Thank you.” I gave him a hug. “I’m hoarding my wishes, so nothing today.”

His smile was pensive. “A wise choice.”

Status Report #21

Friday’s Wish: Pass

Dear Boss,

Scott Fuentes has found himself in an untenable situation through no fault of his own. He is responsible for a project which he has no humanly possible chance of completing by the deadline.

Sara has asked that her wishes transfer to him. Naturally, if that were to happen, the project would be finished well and within the allotted time. I have explained to her that League rules do not permit the transfer.

I would like to make an exception. Can we not allow her to pass along the remaining wishes to her friend? She and I would function as a team on the projects. It would have a positive effect on her healing.

Please reply quickly as this is an urgent request. Scott’s project is dependent on the laws of nature. Given the amount of rain on its way, we must commence at the first opportunity.

I shall close with a proposal. Perhaps this situation should not be an exception. Generosity is a quality worth cultivating in humans. As long as the recipient of the wishes is worthy of the honor, I recommend that we permit such requests in the future.

Regards,

Grant

Allow me to endorse Grant’s proposal. The details would be simple to implement.
