We have an opportunity to do even more good.
Saturday, July 25
Dear Camarin,
The League has endorsed my suggestion for revisiting previous masters, to check on their progress.
With that in mind, I should like to see the finished product with the landscaping project. If you are free next Thursday, perhaps you would like to join me?
Best,
Grant

Dear Grant,
I confess to curiosity as well. It would be a pleasure to accompany you.
Best,

Teasing Light
There were only two more days until the wedding at the B&B, and the forecast looked promising. The event could definitely be held outside.
Scott and I had spent most of the afternoon installing a fairy land of tiny twinkling lights around the gazebo. More lights lined the trail, and a few positional spotlights had been added for safety.
Not that I would ever say this to Scott, but I was secretly glad for the professional seal of approval from Mom and her lighting designer friend. I would’ve hated to get this wrong.
All parts of the landscaping project required for the wedding were officially completed. Scott and I were waiting for the sun to go down, a test of the lighting to ensure the venue had the right romantic appeal. We stood in the clearing, inspecting the final details of this creation that he had masterminded.
“Look.” I pointed toward the river. “It’s exactly the moment the Miltons have been talking about.”
“Which moment?”
“The perfect time for a couple to say their vows. The sun is nearly gone. The river is babbling softly. The moon is hanging low on the horizon, and Venus and Jupiter are shining.”
“The planets?”
I nodded. “I hope it impresses you that I recognize them.”
“Yes, it does.” Laughing, he caught my hand. “Let’s check it out from inside the gazebo.”
Soon we were under the high-domed ceiling. He was taking in the entirety of this place, pride evident in his stance.
“You did a great job, Scott.”
“Thanks. I couldn’t have done it without you and Grant and Camarin.”
“All worth the effort.” I crossed to the railing and faced the river. “It really is romantic.”
He joined me. “I’ll take your word for it.”
“You should, because it is. In forty-eight hours, a couple will say their vows here. They’ll christen this beautiful spot with its first kiss.”
