Her gaze switched to something out the window. Mason and Kimberley were walking away from the town square, hands clasped, as he talked and she listened.
There was more to come, but at least we were all communicating again.

I wished I could solve this problem for her, but only Mason could, and he had chosen the path he could live with. I had to respect him for that, even though I knew it must be devastating for them both.

Poor weather in North Carolina has hampered our ability to complete this project promptly. We were only able to repair a rain garden today—and no more. I won’t be available for a new assignment as quickly as I had originally estimated. Since the project I requested in Peru has become time-critical, I shall withdraw my bid. It clearly must be acted on now.
I plan to remain in my residence here at Sara Tucker’s house until the rain stops. If the League needs my presence, please contact me. I can easily travel to headquarters during the next two days.

With Grant ramping back up to his full Being self and Camarin “in charge,” the project seemed to be on track. But the forecast had been worrying Scott and, as it turned out, it should have. Rain poured all day long Tuesday. If we got the predicted amount of rainfall, Wednesday and Thursday might be losses as well.
