“Passed out on you and possibly ruined your shirt with my tears and snot.”
“Oh, that. I thought maybe you were talking about yelling at me.”
She actually chuckles and it’s the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever seen. “Oh, no. I am one-thousand percentnotapologizing forthat.”
Again. Well-deserved. “Yeah. I know.”
“It’s getting late.” She clears her throat. “We should probably sign the papers, so you can get back to Demetria.”
Fuck. I got so caught up in my own shit with Raegan, I neglected to check in with her about Demi. Their history together isn’t exactly my business but Raegan is my wife and Demi is my friend. I feel compelled to make sure they’re both alright.
“Oh… Demi and I–”
“Stop.” Her hand flies up, stopping right in front of my face. “Can we please justnotlie to each other? Especially about her. I saw you.”
“I know.”
Her eyes find mine and lock onto them. “Then let’s not beat around the bush, yeah? I refuse to listen to you tell me you’re just friends. What I witnessed tonight, was literally everything but. Friends don’t tie up their friends and then edge them within an inch of their life before making them come all over their fingers, do they?”
“Well–”
“Exactly my point.”
“Would you stop fucking interrupting me, Raegan? You’re starting to piss me off.”
She sits up straight and rears her head back. Her brow is very furrowed and she looks like she wants to scratch my fucking eyes out.
Raising my hands in surrender, I ask, “Please don’t murder me. Wereallyarefriends. Besides, she’s gay.”
A sudden, blaring sound escapes her. “I see time has made you stupid, Hayes. That’s unfortunate. At least you still have a pretty face,” she jokes. I’m unamused. “Please tell me you aren’t really this oblivious.”
“I–”
“She may not be mine anymore, but I know that girl like the back of my hand. She wants you. And you clearly want her. Have you fucked her?”
“Raegan!”
“I’ll take that as a yes,” she says with a confident smirk plastered on her gorgeous face. “I rest my case. You see, Hayes, everyone is gay or straight… until they aren’t.”
My head is spinning. There’s no fucking way Demi is actually interested in me.
“Yep,” she continues. “Keep working it out in that pretty little head of yours. If you look at the signs that are right in front of your face, you’ll see it too. It’s hard to miss.”
“Wait. Why are we talking about me and Demi? What about you and Demi?”
Her expression falls and I’m suddenly worried I’ve pushed her too far.
“There is no me and Demi. Just like there is no me and you.” She takes a large pull of air before pulling her lower lip between her teeth. “Speaking of… let’s sign those papers, so we can both move on with our lives.”
I move to stand before the realization of my most recent fuck up slaps me in the face.
Turning my head to peak at her over my shoulder, I catch her watching me with those sad eyes again. Fuck. I’m about to make it worse.
“I kind of forgot to bring the papers.”
