“Fuck!” He said as he punched the wall.

I jumped back as a scream escaped my mouth. Instinctively, my hands ran to my stomach. When I realized what I was doing and what I was showing him, I dropped them. “You have to go.” I stuttered.

His hands dropped from the fist he held. Pieces of paint and drywall crumbled to the ground.

“I’m sorry, Snow. I didn’t mean to do that. I don’t want you scared of me.”

“I’m not. I just need you to go.”

“Snow, please, we can’t end us like this.” His voice faded when there was a knock at the door.

“Just give me a minute to get rid of whoever that is,” I said. “Then we’ll TALK,” I said as I headed out of the room.

“Please don’t be Cane. Please don’t be Cane.” I said as I tightened the towel around my body.

“Who?” I called out.

“It’s me,” Canes said.

“Fuck!” I groaned. I opened the door just enough for him to see my face. “Cane. What are you doing here?” I asked.

“The DNA results.” He said as he tapped his pocket.

“Right now, it’s not a good time,” I said.

“Oh yeah?” He asked as he looked down at the towel I wore. When his eyes returned to mine, I wasn’t sure what I saw in his. Anger, maybe even jealousy, flickered in them. I looked over myshoulder, and there Royal stood with his arms folded. I was met with just as much anger.

Click! Clack!

The sound of a safety coming off a gun had me turning my head back to Cane. Little mama, step out of the way for me.” Cane said.

Slowly, I stepped back into the apartment, both anxious and scared. It felt like I just got caught cheating.

“Who is this nigga?” Cane asked with his gun pointed at Royal.

“Her nigga.” Royal said.

“Royal,” I sighed. “Can you just go? We can finish talking about us another day.” I said.

“Or not,” Cane said as he pulled me into his arms. I hoped Royal didn’t notice the way he held my stomach. I knew he wanted to say more, but with a gun pointed at his head, he couldn’t. I was grateful that he decided to walk away.

“You had no right to do that,” I said as I moved away from Cane. “You can’t just come into my home and pull a gun on my company! Who the fuck do you think you are?”

“Your baby father.” He said as he pecked my lips, “Congratulations.” He said as he pulled the envelope from his pocket. I snatched it from his hand and then opened it. I read over the result. Sure enough, he was the father. I wasn’t happy. I didn’t feel relieved. I felt stuck. I couldn’t go back to Royal, not with this, and I couldn’t be with Cane because he didn’t want me.

I sighed with frustration as I returned to my room. Cane followed right behind me. When he saw the hole in the wall, itrevived a topic I had hoped died in the living room. “I know this nigga didn’t put a hole in your wall.”

“It was an accident.”

“Na Snow, the only accident was me letting that nigga walk out of here untouched. I guarantee that won’t happen again.”

‘Cane! Let me handle it,” I sighed. “This was as violent as things have ever gotten between us. He didn’t hit me. He has never hit me. He just lost his cool.”

“He’s going to lose his life next. Why the fuck was that nigga even here?”

“He came to talk.”

“And you got to talk to him like this?” he asked as he pointed to my towel.
