Did she want to learn about me, too? Or was she dying to get out of here?
I glanced at her and saw she was staring at me, as well. She quickly looked away as her cheeks flushed an even deeper red.
“When you’re done, I’ll show you upstairs to my bedroom. There’s a phone charger too, if you need it.”
“Thank you. You’ve been so kind.”
“I couldn’t leave a woman stranded on a mountain in her high heels, now, could I?”
Raci’s mouth lifted in a smile. And if I wasn’t mistaken, her eyes shot flirty glances my way.
I shifted in my seat and cleared my throat before finishing my hot chocolate.
Raci couldn’t be more different than me if she tried. But something inside told me she was everything I ever needed. I just didn’t know it yet.
CHAPTER THREE
Raci
“Areyou sure you don’t want to give me a ride to find my car? Then you can sleep in your bed and not on the couch.” I asked as Ayden straightened up his room and changed the sheets for me.
“Have you looked outside? The storm has only gotten worse.” Ayden nodded towards the window. “It’s better to lay low during these kinds of storms. Last thing we need is my truck getting stuck.”
One peek through the curtains and I saw the rain battering against it, coming down hard sideways, with the trees blowing all around in the background.
“You’re right.” I said as I wrapped my arms around myself and shivered. I still hadn’t forgotten what the cold rain felt like on my skin.
“If you’re cold, feel free to take a shower before you climb in. I haven’t showered since this morning so the water should be nice and hot.”
“Thank you.” I was surprised the gruff mountain man was so nice. He definitely didn’t look it on the outside. In fact, he lookedmore like he wanted to ring my neck when I showed up on his doorstep at two in the morning.
Last thing I expected was a cup of hot cocoa and a furry cuddly dog.
“There’re towels in the linen cabinet. If Bluey bothers you, just kick him out. He likes to sleep across the foot of the bed, but I can close the door, so he doesn’t come in. Most likely, he’ll stay downstairs with me anyway.”
“Again, thank you. You’ve been so kind.”
“You’re welcome,” Ayden sort of growled, but I caught the smile on his face. “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.”
He walked out the door and my eyes followed him, feasting on his sexy form and picturing him naked. When he glanced behind him, I pretended to be busy with the bed pillows, though my cheeks caught on fire. “Goodnight, Raci.”
“Goodnight, Ayden. Thank you again.”
“You’re welcome. See you in the morning.”
Ayden shut the door softly behind him, yet I stood there not moving. I couldn’t believe I was about to climb into a stranger’s bed. What if he came up here in the middle of the night and tried to kill me?
No, he owns a dog, for Goodness sakes. People who owned dogs didn’t kill people, right?
Oh well, I was here, and I couldn’t just leave. I’d be walking into the dark storm again.
With a sigh, I plugged in my phone with the charger on the nightstand and slid underneath the covers. I pulled the blankets up to my chin and nestled in. The bedding smelled of clean laundry but a hint of something else, something more manly and spicy.
It had to him. Ayden.
I breathed in the smell more and tingles ran through me. I squeezed my thighs together, the desire between my legs growing strong and aching.
My hands began to roam over my body as I breathed his scent in deeper.
