They were really trying to pull my card by having a meaningless conversation about my husband, as if they knew him in a way that I didn’t.

“Raven, why wasn’t you there at Big Mike’s party? Jahrein wouldn’t let you go?” Shell threw the question over her shoulder as she had her back facing me. She was sitting on the edge of her seat facing those other chicks.

“You know how niggas is. And that nigga Jah flirt too much to have any of his bitches in the club with him. He’ll send them home first.” The girl added.

“Broke bitches always have a lot to say.” I said aloud. “I was probably rolling around in his money while he was at the club.” I just threw that out there for the hell of it. “And wasn’t that you that I seen coming from the bus stop, Shell? I think you might need to step your game up, before you worry about me.”

“Y’all clowning over there.” Shan shook her head, with a hint of laughter. “I’m ready for you, Raven.” She said as the black chick rose out of the seat.

I sauntered over to her giving those bitches my best profile, before I sat in the awaiting chair.

“Don’t you feel special? These bitches spend half of their day hating on Raven.” Shan whispered into my ear.

I laughed out loud, as I slyly revealed to her that I was packing a knife. “I feel like the president up in this bitch.”

I left the salon looking like a million bucks. I felt refreshed despite those jealous hoes trying to ruin my day. Everyday I looked up somebody had a problem with Raven, but I always dusted that shit off.

I went on to go pick my kids up and then headed home. When me, Junior, Jhyrah, and Jahrae came through the front door of our home their daddy was sitting on the couch with the meanest expression. When he laid eyes on his children his entire face lit up and so did theirs.

My four year old son and two year old daughter ran over to Jahrein. They loved when he was at home to greet them. Although, Jah got on my last damn nerves I knew that he was a good father. We had family day on the regular. I never had to complain about him not spending enough time or shit like that. He was always taking the kids to Chuck E. Cheese or something. In fact, he had spoiled their asses.

It was always, “I want my daddy.” or “Where’s my daddy?” And Jhyrah just killed me. She was so jealous when it came to him. Hell, she had just recentlyaccepted Jahrae touchingherdaddy. No, she didn’t play when it came to Jahrein Ty Braxton Sr.

Me and Jahrae went and sat on the opposite couch away from his mean daddy. I was hoping that those two motor mouths would keep him preoccupied. His ass was distracted for all of two minutes.

“Let me see that phone.” he demanded, while he was still playing with Jhyrah. He didn’t even bother to look at me. I handed him the phone and he snatched it out my hand. He tried to turn it on, I guess to make sure that it was really dead.

“Who was you talking to, Raven?” he asked me too calm like.

“I accidentally ran into somebody when I was talking to you.” I explained.

“Who?” He shot back.

I took my time answering that. I didn’t want to lie and then get caught in it later. But at the same time I knew that he would trip out if I told him the name. I wasn’t for sure how much he’d actually heard.

“Khalil.” I finally replied.

“So, that hoe ass nigga was calling you sexy and shit? That’s who was being extra friendly?!” he exclaimed. I didn’t know what to say.

“Man, that nigga knows that I don’t fuck with him. He gon make me put something hot in his ass.” Jahrein spat.

“I didn’t know that y’all don’t get along.” I replied.

“Yeah, we been having beef for years. He used to fuck with Melissa before I did. Then she left him alone to fuck with me. Then you know, me and you got together and I removed myself from the picture. But Melissa still wanted to fuck with me and shit. Sheended up having his baby, but still didn’t want to be with his ass. So, the nigga started saying that he could take you, I guess to piss me off.” Jahrein told me.

That shit really had me confused. Was I some kind of pawn? Was Khalil that hung up on Melissa that he’d try to fuck up our relationship? What the hell was really good? At that point I realized that I was done playing games with Khalil.

“So, what else did the nigga say to you?” he asked me.

“That was pretty much it.” I lied.

“You sure?” he looked at me with a raised brow.

“Uh-huh.” I nodded.

“So, what you did today?” he asked me. Every day he asked me the same questions. He wanted to know everything. I didn’t know if he was genuinely interested or listening for holes in my time line. It didn’t bother me because at least his ass always listened to what I had to say.

“I went to class. Then I went to the beauty shop. That really sums up my day. So, what did you do besides sit here?”
