Chills broke out onto my arms. “Drea, Dash’s family is dangerous, he wouldn’t go back there.”
She must not know his story, at least not the part about how he got his scar, because she was suddenly wearing a very concerned look. I didn’t want to share his personal info, but I had a feeling the “Dash going back to LA” thing was a total lie.
“He’s with Gage,” I growled.
“What?”
I just knew it. I felt it in my bones. “They’ve been all chummy, going on walks together. I’ll bet Gage got hurt last night trying to save me and called Dash.”
Drea gave me a pointed look. “They went ononewalk together and it was more of Dash following behind Gage. I doubt they are besties.”
I opened my mouth to speak when there was a knock at the door. “Come in!” Drea yelled.
The door opened and Aurelia stood there with one of the master Lumens from last night. His arm was bandaged, and he nodded when he saw us sitting on the bed.
Aurelia looked slightly worried. “Tatum, I’ve just been going over Master Hunter Hartland’s debrief and he said something I thought you would want to know.”
I looked at the master Lumen with confusion.
He cleared his throat. “I was the one that found you and took you to the healing center.”
Oh.
I stood. “Oh my gosh, thank you.”
He held out his good hand to stop me, as if rejecting my thanks. “I wouldn’t have been able to do that if not for the Alston boy.”
I froze, every single muscle in my body going rigid.
“Gage? You saw him there?”I knew I wasn’t crazy!
The Lumen nodded. “He was covered in blood, screaming for help. When I tried to fly him to safety, he refused and said to take you. By the time I went back for him, he was gone.”
I sagged into the bed as Drea gasped behind me.
“Sorry,” he muttered.
“No.” I shook my head. “Thank you for telling me.”
Aurelia dismissed him and then looked at Drea and me. “I’ll put out a call to all Lumens working tonight. If anyone sees him, they’ll bring him to the healing center.”
I just nodded, numb, as Aurelia said goodbye and closed the door when she left.
When the door clicked shut, Drea finally spoke: “All right, where do we start looking?”
Relief spread through my limbs, and the numbness fled. I knew she’d be with me, and there was no way I could sit by idly if he was hurt, which was possible since the master Lumen confirmed Gage had been covered in blood. His or the hellhound’s? I’d been too terrified to ask.
“I was thinking Gage’s safe house. The one on Long Island.”
I thought back to our almost-kiss there and how he’d broken the chains from my feet with his talisman.
Looking determined, Drea shoved off of her bed and grabbed her cell phone.
“You’re a good friend,” I told her with a smile as we stepped out into the hallway.
She raised one eyebrow. “The best. You knock me out yesterday and today I’m helping you look for your boyfriend.”
My belly warmed at the word “boyfriend.” Technically, Gage had never asked me out, but I kept my mouth shut. Now wasn’t the time to argue semantics.
