“That never gets old,” Skye said.
“What’s wrong?” Gage stood, suddenly alert.
“It’s Skye.” I groaned, staring at the ghostly member of the Angel Gang.
Skye and I were normally playful with each other, but the look on her face right now made all of my playfulness go out the window.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her.
She chewed on her lip. “So, technically nothing is wrong right now, but if you guys don’t leave here in the next ten minutes, Apollyon and his demons will show up and kill you all.”
I grabbed my chest in shock. “What! Where do we go?” I asked her, and then looked to the group. “Pack up! Apollyon is on his way.”
Skye looked over her shoulder at my sister. “Apollyon figured out that since Harley is a master Shade her energy signature is more easily trackable for him and his demons. He’s already in the area. It’s only a matter of time before he pinpoints her location.”
Oh man. That was not the news I wanted to hear.
“Okay, we’ll leave the country,” I told her, gaining wild looks from the rest of the group, who were now packing frantically.
Skye shook her head. “Not good enough. You need to go off world.”
“Off world!” I screamed, and Harley crossed the room to stand at my side. She stared right at Skye. I’d forgotten that my sister could also see ghosts.
“Like the Netherworld?” Harley asked.
Skye looked at Harley like she was an idiot.
Harley put a sassy hand on her hip. “Well, we can’t go to Avalon. I’ll light on fire the second I step foot in that place.”
You know, she was probably right. If Gage’s dark energy had broken the portal to Avalon, I didn’t want to know what the master Shade energy would do.
It hit me then, what Skye was suggesting.
“Tartarus?” I gasped.
Skye nodded. “Aurum said if you can get everyone there, it could be a great hiding spot, and also double as a training location for you and Harley.”
“Aurum?” Harley asked.
“My guardian angel who is a flying lion that shoots eye lasers,” I told her.
She looked at me like I was joking.
I peered back at Skye. “How do I portal there?”
She shrugged and then glanced at her naked wrist as if consulting a clock. “But you have five minutes. I’ll be back with Aurum and you can lead us all in?”
“No. Skye, I don’t—”
She poofed out of existence and I growled.
Gage ran over carrying a backpack and my duffle bag. “We’re ready.”
I swallowed hard and looked at Harley. “Can you go somewhere you’ve never been to or seen a picture of?” I asked her, nervous about trying to make a portal to Tartarus myself. My only experience making portals to a different realm was to the Netherworld, and that required more power and concentration than making a portal to any place on Earth. What if making a portal to Tartarus was even harder?
She shook her head.
Crap.
