He shook his head. “But I can get you one from Spokane that knows about the supernatural world.”

I waved him off, chugging the fourth bottle of blood and trying to wrap my head around my new life. “I’m ready to meet with House of Thorns. I gotta find Ruby and—”

Luka’s eyebrows rose. “Babe, our wedding is supposed to be tomorrow.”

Shit.

I’d forgotten the small, ill-planned affair.

“What’s wrong?” Panic flooded his face. “Youdostill want to get married, right?”

I leapt across the room a little too quickly, and bumped into him.

Oops. “Sorry. Still figuring out the speed and strength thing.”

He chuckled, but there was a look of fear on his face. Reaching out, I cupped his chin. “Luka, I am so totally marrying you. I just … always thought my wedding would be, like, a big planned-out event with all my friends, and a four-tier cake, and custom dress, in a church … but I know time is an issue and money might be tight—”

Luka reached out and placed a finger to my lips, stopping my rambling midsentence. “Say no more, my love.”

I frowned. “What do you mean?”

“Now that you are a vampire, the council will give me an extension. Money isnotan issue. All of our people pay a crown tax, and I want to give you the wedding of your dreams.”

Our people.Vampires were nowmy people.

Tears filled my eyes and I nodded, offhandedly wondering how I could cry but not pee. I guessed that was not a good question to ask right now.

Luka pressed his lips to mine and a slight moan escaped me. In all the drama of my change, and passing out last night because I was so tired, I hadn’t really touched or kissed him. Now that I had, it was like an inferno had ignited inside of me. With more force than I intended, I threw him backward onto the love seat and straddled him. His head hit the pillow hard and he looked up at me with a grin. Leaning forward, I dragged my tongue across his bottom lip and he groaned.

“You kill me, woman.”

My smile widened and I moved to his neck, peppering him with kisses along his collarbone. Reaching up, I pulled his shirt up to reveal his perfect, tan, tattooed abs.

Yum. Moving my head down, I trailed my tongue across his stomach, enjoying the frantic panting he was exhibiting.

I got to the first button of his jeans and popped it open.

“Aspen,” he moaned.

I was about to unbutton the second one when a knock came at the door.

“GO AWAY!” Luka roared.

“It’s Liv!” she yelled. “We got news on Ruby!”

I froze.

“Go away. She’ll meet you in ten minutes!” Luka roared back, and I burst into laughter.

Pulling my head up, I met his golden yellow gaze. “I’m sorry, babe. I gotta help with Ruby. It was partly my fault Maz was tipped off to her.”

Luka took in a deep breath and closed his eyes. When they opened, they were nearly glowing, and centered on mine. “I’m going to destroy you on our wedding night.”

That fire was back inside of me and I leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his lips. “Promise?”

As I walked away, I enjoyed the growl that ripped from his throat.
