Her body jolted, her shoulder slamming up and then down on the bed. More mist fell, covering Liv’s entire form so that I could no longer make out her dark hair or eyeshadow. She was like a blue being. Her body jerked again and I looked at Demi.
The alpha reached into her thigh holster and pulled out what I recognized as a fey blade.
Interesting, what was she going to do with th—?
Liv opened her mouth, screamed, and a black inky blob ripped from her throat. Demi rushed forward with the blade and hacked into it, as it had suspended in midair, shredding it to pieces. It disintegrated before my very eyes.
Was that Maz’s soul?Because I wasn’t sure I could handle the fact that it had just possessed Liv!
The blue healing magic fully absorbed into Liv’s skin and then she gasped, eyes snapping open. I threw myself over her, sobbing and hugging her like a crazy woman. Her eyes were normal, no more black veins. She was healed. I sat up and wiped my own eyes, looking at Astra in awe. She was so small and unassuming. You wouldn’t guess how truly blessed and powerful she was by merely looking at her.
“Thank you,” I croaked, pulling her into a hug as well. Her arms wrapped around me.
“What just happened?” Liv asked dreamily.
We all burst into laughter and I pulled back and peered down at Liv, so glad to see her looking like her normal self.
“Maz is dead. Her soul jumped into you. But it’s all going to be fine now.” I grabbed her shoulder and she shrank away from me.
“Who’s Maz? Who are you?”
My stomach dropped. And then Liv burst into laughter.
“Are you kidding me? You thought that was funny!” I reached out and punched her shoulder, hard.
“Not cool,” Demi agreed.
Liv sat up. “Sorry, it was too serious a moment. I needed some lightness.”
She turned to Astra and tilted her head to the side. “Thank you.”
Astra grinned. “Welcome.”
“Yeah, like seriously thank you. Is there anything we can do? Like pay you or something?”
Astra shook her head vigorously. “No, no.”
I frowned. “Well, will I see you again? Maybe I can buy you lunch next time I’m in Werewolf City?” I would sit there and not eat food like a vampire weirdo.
Astra and Demi shared a look, both of them grinning.
“What?” I looked at them both. They were obviously hiding something from me.
“It’s a secret,” Demi told me, “but Luka got Astra to officiate your wedding.”
My heart pinched and butterflies took flight in my stomach. I’d told him I wanted a holy person to marry us and he’d chosen Astra?
I looked at Astra with tears in my eyes. “That’s perfect.”
She reached out and squeezed my hand. “Can’t wait.”
There was a knock on the van door and Demi reached out and opened it. Luka was standing there, grinning.
“All good?” He looked at Liv.
She nodded.
“Why are you smiling?” I asked him.
