“Mom, you okay?” I asked, because she looked slightly overwhelmed with emotion.
Reaching out, she grasped my hand and squeezed. “I’ve got this. It’s my way to help, and I’m honored to do so.”
My throat clenched with emotion. When she told me she wanted to help us free the breeders, I envisioned her giving us intel that would help us attack the encampment, but this … this was so much more important. I nodded, not trusting myself to speak.
“Penelope, you are Joyce’s daughter. She died last winter I’m afraid.” My mom’s tone was somber and Penelope’s head dipped low. “But your younger sister is here, in Werewolf City,” my mom added, and Penelope looked up with a bright smile. “She was a breeder.”
My mom then looked to the next hunter. “Riv, your mother, Laura, is here too. One of my oldest friends,” my mom said, and he broke into a full-on grin, a single tear slipping down his cheek.
Demi suddenly appeared next to me, pulling me away from the crowd. I looked up at her and could tell immediately by the look on her face that it was serious.
“Oh God, what’s wrong?” I asked.
Demi stepped away so that we wouldn’t be overheard, and then chewed on her bottom lip. “Would a good friend tell you something you’ve been wanting to know even if it might derail this cushy little family reunion?” she asked.
I frowned. “Yes?” I was confused at what she was talking about.
Demi swallowed hard, and then a light bulb went off in my head.
“Morgana,” I growled.
Demi grinned. “I got the bitch’s location. She’s a day’s journey away. Pearl can fly us in, you take care of her, and we will be back by tonight. What do you say?”
I grinned. Demi was the best.
“Ohhellyeah,” I told her.
Morgana not only tried to kill me, she hurt Luka, and his mom. I was going to kill her slowly and enjoy every second of it.
I hesitated. “I should tell Luka…”
Demi nodded. “I need to tell Sawyer too. Best to tell themafterwe leave.”
I snort-chuckled, and then called Liv over so we could all slip away to Paladin Village.
Morgana was going down.
Chapter Eleven
‘Tell Demiyou can never hang out with her again,’Luka roared as I clung to Pearl’s back.‘She’s a bad influence!’Liv was tucked in behind me, and Sage and Demi were up front as Marmal veered Pearl toward the Witch Lands.
‘This was always the plan,’I told Luka.‘I kill Morgana and you kill Maz.’
‘I know, but I thought I would be there just in case something went wrong,’he said.
I looked at the other four badass women with me and chuckled.‘Luka, I’m in good hands. We totally got this. You should be as far from it as possible now that you are king.’
He was silent.‘Tell me when it’s done. Be safe. I want to marry you, not bury you.’
‘You will marry me,’I assured him.‘And, technically, it would be cremation since we turn to ash.’
‘Not funny,’he growled, and I grinned at my own joke.
Demi had a sour look on her face. I imagined she was arguing with Sawyer via their mate bond. It was bad timing with our big plans to bring down all of the breeder camps in just a few days, but I couldn’t let this chance pass me by.
Pearl flew over Troll Village, the Fey Lands, and finally we came upon a landscape I didn’t recognize: weeping willows, running creeks, and lush green rolling hills. It was beautiful, but it also had a charge to the air.
We started to descend the second we passed into the space and I frowned. “We’re here?” I yelled over the wind, looking for Morgana’s tent or cabin or wherever she was holed up, but all I saw were endless woods and farms.
